DAVID RANSON OVERTON

David Ransom and his wife Martha E. and small daughter Florence along with his brother James Lusk and wife Martha settled in Brazoria County, Texas upon leaving Carroll County, MS. Family sayings held that David and James left McMinnville, TN when their mother remarried. They did not get along with their step-father. Shortly after arriving he left his family for the California gold rush. James and his wife may have watched out about Martha Evelyn in the 7-8 yr interval. From what stories we've heard she was quite a woman and fended for herself quite well. When indians attempted to come down her chimney, she put her feather mattress in the fireplace and smoked them out.
