There exist very few Fizell (spelled many ways) family origins in the world. This web page has only the Philadelphia Branch of the Fizell Family Tree. Our www.Fizell.org web site (see link below) has family trees from Australia and Canada, in addition to the Philadelphia Branch. Visit and add your Fizell family tree to the Fizell.org Web Site, the only web site dedicated to family trees with the Fizell surname, regardless of spelling.
Our Philadelphia Branch ancestor, a Simon Fizel who lived at 73 New Street, Philadelphia, PA, as listed in the Philadelphia City Directory for 1799. Occupation was listed as Gentleman.
Also from Genealogical Records: Pennsylvania Wills, 1682-1834, he is listed as an executor of a will.
MARES, JEAN. Inhabitant of St. Mare, St. Domingo. January 16, 1798. January 20, 1798. X.689. Son: Benjamin [St. Mare]. Sister: Catharine [Wife of Mr. Boe of St. Nicholas France]. Exec: Simon Fizel [of St. Mare, now at Trenton]. Wit: Pertrignan and P. Le Barbier DuPlessis. Proved in Philadelphia.
His widow, Ann Fizel, lived around 2nd and Arch Sts and on Race St. through the early 1800's. Her name's spelling became Fizell, as did her children. She had two boys, Eli and Lewis. Eli's descendants left Philadelphia in the late 1800's. Lewis's descendants remained in Philadelphia until the late 1900's, and some still live in the surrounding area.
Our family tree is on CD in the World Family Tree CD Collection, volume 44,#746.
