Currently doing research on the surname FLAIG (11 years of work)

My direct line of Flaigs goes back to the Black Forest region of
Germany, recorded in church books to 1656. The surname FLAIG has
been in that area since the 1200's. Have found other sources
recently that take our family back into the 1500's in and around the Schramberg area.

My GG Grandfather Gustavus Flaig came to America in 1848 when he was 17 yrs.old, settled in Ohio and married Barbara Graf there in 1855, had 3 children there and moved to Virginia in 1860-61, where they had 5 more children. In 1863 that western part of Virginia changed to West Virginia. For the next 85 years or so, his descendants, including me, were all born in the same town there.Four generations of FLAIG fathers are buried there.
