Samuel is listed in the 1850 Census of Amherst Co, VA as being part indian (mulatto) and his trade was listed as carpenter. His family lived in the upper Irish Creek area near the Amherst, Rockbridge, Nelson County lines.

Samuel possibly had a brother of cousin named Mitchell Floyd born abt 1765 and died abt 1838. Mitchell married Polly Goolsby on Sept. 3, 1818 in Amherst and raised a family.

The Descendants of Samuel Floyd are in both Amherst and Rockbridge Counties, with more generations spreading to different location of the country.
