OBITUARY: GREENVILLE
- Clyde Walker Smiley Jr., 40, of 100 Station Lane, Greenville, died at 5:48 a.m. Friday (October 1, 2004) at Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville. He was born Nov. 18, 1963, in Lexington, a son of Clyde W. Smiley Sr., and Dorothy (Clark) Smiley of 100 Station Lane, Greenville. Mr. Smiley volunteered with the AA Program at Augusta Medical Center, where he sponsored and provided transportation for new members. He was a volunteer for WVPT fund-raising programs and supported a group on the Internet for homebound people. He loved reading, music and helping others, and was gifted with many interests and loves. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice M. and Alexander "Murphy" Cash and Wanda K. and Edward Gray McFall, all of Greenville; a special nephew, Ryan Walker Cash; beloved aunts and uncles, Ray and Helen Norcross of Stuarts Draft, Jerry and Shirley Berry of Spottswood; an aunt, Nancy Staton of Greeville; and two uncles, Ed and Ralph Clark. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herbert G. and Agnes (Etta) Clark and Lois C. and Arthur L. Smiley; and three uncles, Kenneth Clark, Arthur Smiley and Charlie Staton. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 3, 2004) in the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church cemetery by Pastor Wyatt Mays and a special eulogy by Teri Smith Robinson. Active pallbearers will be Murphy Cash, Edward McFall, Martin Chittum, Jerry Berry, David Berry and Terry Robinson. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. today (Oct. 2, 2004) in the Henry Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
