Notes for EVA IRENE SOUTHERS:
Rene had a very dry sense of humor. Roslyn Southers recalls that Rene had at least two children that miscarried. Her ashes are interred in the family plot in Shenandoah, Virginia. The SSDI lists her last residence as York, South Carolina. She's listed under Irene L. Callahan.

Rene told Rose that Mom (Susie) was sick. Rene was pregnant when Susie died. She came back when she found out Susie was sick.

Notes for AMOS BENJAMIN SOUTHERS:
Amos used to hate kissing his Grandmother Mary on visits to Riverside. She had no teeth and would slobber when she kissed you.

Amos was a World War II veteran. He loved to fish. His ashes were scattered over his favorite fishing hole. The SSDI lists Amos' last residence as Union Bridge, Maryland.

Amos talked quiet like his father.

After Susie's death, Amos & Rose sat on the front porch out of the way. A black cloud came over the house. A very defined cloud.

Amos spent 9 or 10 years in the military. His last station was in Alaska. He worked at the Lee Hi Cement in Fordwick, then the Lee Hi in Union, Maryland.

Every day when they were at Riverside, Amos and Rose would come up with a quarter to go to the store. They'd hold hands until they got out of sight of the house then pull their hands apart.

Amos could be a mean big brother, making Rose eat grass and rabbit droppings.

While posted in Alaska, Amos loved to fish, buying a boat and a big freezer.

Amos joined up soon after Susie died, about 16 days later. Amos told Rose not worry, she had him, after Susie died.

Amos loved his pipe and he loved to fish. He worked at the Lee Hi Cement Factory in Fordwick. He would drive down from Maryland to visit, but would always drive back that evening, never staying the night. Bob called him 'Ham'. Together, they made up a "full moon", a reference to the appearance of their bald heads side by side. Amos was cremated and his ashes dumped in his favorite fishing hole.

Earl Houston Floyd of Rt. 1, Buena Vista, died June 24, 1987 in Stonewall Jackson Hospital. He was 61.
Mr. Floyd who was married to Mildred Riley Floyd, was born June 6, 1926 in Rockbridge County. He was the son of Robert Henry Floyd of Buena Vista and the late Julia Jartless Floyd. He was a member of the McCutchen Presbyterian Chruch and was an assistant foreman for Burlington Industries.
Survivors in addition to his wife and father are a daughter, Karen Elaine Floyd of Buena Vista; and nine sisters, Bertha F. Landefeld, Mrs. Gladys F. Little, Mrs Magdelene F. Traster and Mrs. Alice F. Myers, all of Columbus, Ohio; Mrs Mildred F. Stickley og Bolwing Green Kentucky, Mrs. Peggy F. Blakenship of Sacramento, CA, Mrs. Louise F. Webber of Bethlehem, PA, Mrs. Meta F Loudermilk of Akron, Ohio, and Mrs Eula F. Wade of Richboro, PA.
The Rev. Terry Sutherland conducted the funeral at 3pm Saturday at the McCutchen Presbyterian Church. Burial followed in the GReen Hill Cemetery with a military service conducted by the American Legion Post 126 and VFW Post 1499.
