Story from Phyllis Cyrus Harvey 3/3/2007

My dad used to tell us of how he met Mom. My dad and his brothers were musicians and they were playing for a dance in Buena Vista that Mom attended with Lou and Elmer. Daddy saw her and told his brother that she was the woman he was going to marry.

When he got serious about her, he went to the home of her parents to ask if he could marry her, but John and his sons were not at home. So, Daddy was directed to the mountain where they were cutting wood. When Daddy got there and stated his reasons, all Mom's brothers literally attacked him. They thought he was not good enough for their sister, and were going to beat him up really good. However, John stopped them and listened to Daddy's plea, and decided he would make a good husband for his daughter. Believe it or not, Daddy became close friends with every one of her brohers after that.
