In a letter dated August 11, 1998, Velma Peters Campbell writes; " Mother lived with me and Freddie for 30 years. She was in a wheel chair all that time. She had kept my three children in awe of her, telling them about her "Arkansas Travelers", while in a covered wagon, when she was a small girl. (Boars chasing the wagon, storms, tornados, Indians, etc.) Don't know how much of it was true. But while her sister was adopted she went with her brothers and father. She enjoyed life until the end even tho she was in a lot of pain. She had spunk.Hope I have some of her spirit."
In a letter dated 28 August 1998, Eugene and Betty Forbes wrote ," The first time I remember seeing Aunt Minnie was when I was a small child and she was at that time in a wheel chair. I do not know why, but to me that was just part of Aunt Minnie. One leg was real crooked and her hands looked arthritic. She lived with her daughter Velma and son-in-law Fred Campbell in Gadsden, Alabama...She was with our Grandpa Forbes when he went from Georgia to Oklahoma in a covered wagon around 1900. My daddy and Uncle Robert was also with them...Her husband was Uncle Reuben Peters (They later divorced.) and I know that at one time they lived at East Lake, here in the Birmingham area...Aunt Minnie liked to take a little dip of snuff and we kids liked to tease and watch her take it. She spent a week or two with Mama and Daddy each year. As a matter of a fact, she brought the first deck of cards in Mama and Daddy's house and played Solitaire. Later they learned to play Rook and had lots of good times with that. She would play Dominos with MB. Aunt Minnie had the sweetest loving disposition of anyone I have ever known that was in her condition. She lived the last years of her life in a nursing home in Birmingham and was very fortunate to have family that cared for her. We lived here during some of those years and her grandson brought her to our house occasionally to visit with Daddy and the family...I took Aunt Minnie to singing several times."
