 Includes NotesNotes for Edward Denney:
[Denney.GED]

Information from Denney Cousins and Rhonda Hawkins. The story is that three brothers named O'Denny emigrated to the United States in the 1700's and , as happened to many Irish immigrants, lost the suffix "O". Basic Denney-Forbes lineage from descendant, Susan G. Denney. Other information from Susan's Aunt , Katherine Blalock Denney (1025 Huntingdon Rd. Winston-Salem, NC 27104), who graciously sent me a copy of part III, THE DENNEY LINES, of her book THE ANCESTRY OF AN AMERICAN FAMILY.

" The earliest ancestor that I've been able to document is Edward Denney who received a royal grant of 100 acres near Fair Forest Creek in present day Union County, South Carolina. Edward did not immigrate to SC direct from Ireland but came through Pennsylvania... A veteran of the Revolution... The Armstrongs were also from Pennsylvania, first Lancaster, then Cumberland County. The name of Edward's father may have been Robert Denney. Nothing proved to date but you will find a Robert Denney on the Lancaster, PA, 1751 tax roll. I also found a Robert Denney who witnessed a land sale in Anson County, North Carolina in 1754 in the vicinity of McDowell's Creek. McDowell's Creek is on the north side of present day Charlotte. Formed about 1749, Anson County included just about all of southwestern North Carolina and the upper third or so of western South Carolina, including Union County. McDowell's Creek is probably 75 or 80 miles, lets say, north of Fair Forest Creek in Union, SC. "

Spartan militia regiment during the Revolutionary War. In 1794 Edward and his family moved to Elbert County Georgia where he obtained two land grants on the North Fork of the Broad River. From 1799 to 1821 he operated a ferry service."
