About 5 miles NE of Aledo, halfway between Fort Worth and Weatherford} Creek, the following year...about 1895... We stayed there one year and moved to Marietta, Oklahoma. The third year of my life was spent on the Oklahoma side of the Red River Valley, land now a part of Lake Texoma..Love County, Indian Territory....Two houses, each about twelve feet square, roofed together and sat about ten feet apart to form a covered breezeway between them . We had a plank floor in the front room, but of course, a dirt floor was good enough for the kitchen...It must have been about the year 1902. I would have been eight years old and John M. Thirteen. Aunt Molly had died a year earlier and Uncle Mack had brought his three children from Georgia to make his home at our house. There was Chester, about John M.'s age, Minnie, about Eva's age, and Robert about my age. We farmed All the land that 'went with' the house, but it did not produce enough to feed two families, so us kids 'worked out'. We were picking cotton...And the loving we got. We were sure we were not ordinary children, but something real special..."
"Ernest inducted into Army 04 August 1918 at Amarillo, Texas, and served in England and France. Discharged at Camp Bowie, Texas on 10 May 1919... Described as having blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, 5'10" height, and had Excellent character... Amarillo's first postman, beginning in 1915.. At various times he owned a furniture store, a grocery store,a camp ground...a laundry, a lumber yard, and rent houses...He was generous and was always helping peole, especially relatives.
