Notes for Talitha Cumi Anderson: Grandson Earl Sowder told me that Talitha had chopped off one of her fingers to the middle joint, with an axe, while chopping wood and "she could thump my head real good with that short finger." May have been the finger on her right hand. ~ Regonna M Wms Fosbury, regonnafosbury@yahoo.com ----------------------------------------- 20 April 1910 United States Federal Census ~ pg 5B, img 10 Name: Thilitha Williams * Age in 1910: 46 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1864 Birthplace: Kentucky Relation to Head of House: Wife * Father's Birth Place: Kentucky Mother's Birth Place: Kentucky Spouse's Name: Silas W Home in 1910: Canadian, Pittsburg, Oklahoma Marital Status: Married Race: White Gender: Female Household Members: Name Age : 83. Notes for Nannie Williams: Regonna, The name of the cemetery is Crowder Cemetery, located in Crowder, OK. I don't know if we have a genealogy library in McAlester. Barbara's e-mail address is barbarasulliva1715@sbcglobal.net. Bill's address, if I'm not mistaken, is sowder@comcast.net We had a really good time on our vacation. First we went to George's house which is about an hour from Branson, stayed there 2 nights and went on the Branson where we went to the Jim Stafford Show. Judi got us 2nd row center seats. We could practically touch him. That was thoroughly enjoyable. We left Branson and went on to Nashville where we stayed in a motel and Bill came and picked us up and took us to his house for dinner. The next day Bill, Ceola, Barbara, and I went to The Hermitage (Andrew Jackson's mansion) and then on a tour of Nashville on foot. I went to the old Ryman Auditorium and stood on the stage where many of the country music singers have debuted and had my picture taken playing a guitar. I think that was the highlight of the trip. Next, we went to the new Grand Old Opry but by the time we got there it was closed for the day. They were having Fanfair 2005 that weekend and were getting ready for all the stars. After Nashville we went to Illinois where my nephew Jason (George's son) was getting married. He had a beautiful wedding and afterwards cocktails and then a sit down dinner and dancing til midnight. I was very tired. After the wedding we went to Springfield, Illinois where we went to the Abraham Lincoln museum. It has only been opened 2 months and still has the new smell in it. We then traveled to Springfield, Missouri where we went to the George Washington Carver Museum. We left on a Sunday and were gone 11 days. I was dragging by the time we got home but I had a really good time. Let me know when you get a chance to come up this way. Crowder is just about 15 minutes north of McAlester. Check with your genealogy library in McAlester. They should be able to point you in the direction of a headstone repair man. What are Barbara and Bill's e-mail address's? I have George's sowder@mo-net.com. I trust that you and Barbara had a nice trip with few problems. Regonna ~~~~~ Linda Duke <lduke1947@yahoo.com> wrote: Regonna, Barbara and I went to the Crowder cemetery last Sunday and found Nannie and Henry's gravemarker. There is only one grave marker for both of them. On the base of the marker it said Williams. On the top of the marker it said Nannie W. Sowder, Henry. I think the W. stands for Williams. Anyway, the top of the marker has broken away from the bottom of the marker. Someone leaned it up against the base and that is how I found it. I yelled and screamed for Barbara. We had walked all over the cemetery thinking it would be a double marker or 2 small markers, but it was just one. If you ever get a chance to come to McAlester, I will take you to their gravesite. I'm thinking about getting in touch with someone who might be able to restore the tombstone. I don't want to replace it I just want to get it fixed. Barbara and I didn't find out anything from Bill about the Sowder side of the family. We are still working on it. Linda |
