1757. Mary Hill981, born Abt. 1740; died Unknown.

Notes for Cornelius Dougherty:
He moved to Kentucky "the year after Daniel Boone". The dates are still in doubt. One source gives 1715 Ireland as date and place of Cornelius's birth. I tend to believe he was born between 1736 and 1741 as tradition has him in the Revolutionary War, and the birth dates of his children make more sense.

An e-mail from Linda Murphy dated December 27, 1998 states:
I have more than one source for Cornelius. One says he came to America in 1760 and the other says that he was born between 1736 and 1740 in Rockbridge Co., Virginia. Mary was born in Augusta Co., Virginia about 1741. His father is listed in the Family Tree Maker computer cd's vol. 11 as Cornelius b. 1715 in Northumberland Co., Virginia. Then his father Neale b. 1669 in Northumberland Co.,--then his father Alexander. All three have married Cherokee women.
Another person (Sherry Healy) has Cornelius b. 1742-1756 in Ireland to Charles and Rebecca Daugherty. Charles died July 17, 1763 in Rockbridge Co., Virginia. Charles's father was Michael b. before 1702 in Ireland and also died in Rockbridge in 1763.

None of this has been confirmed as yet.
In the book "The Doughertys of Kentucky" by William C. Stewart is the following information:

Page 251: mentions a Cornelius Dougherty, a weaver, was listed in Captain George Robinson's Company in 1742. He lived on Cedar Creek of the North Fork of Roanoke, and still was there in 1773 and 1779, when he deeded his land to his son William.
Page 262: Cornelius Dougherty is said to have come from Ireland to Virginia in 1760, where he married Mary Hill. He went to Estill's Station in Kentucky in 1779, and stayed for 7 years. He, or more likely his son Cornelius, served under General George R. Clark in the Fall of 1782. His son Alexander served with Colonel Benjamin Logan that year. One of the two William Doughertys with Logan at Estill's Station in 1781 was probably Cornelius's son. His son or brother David signed a petition to divide Lincoln County in 1783.

By 1800 Nobel, John and William were living in Washington County and Christopher and his wife Martha moved to Hardin County.
