Darrin R. Fouke at Kaskaskia,IL , ca. 1996
|
|

The town of Kaskaskia was the 1st capitol of Illinois. Among its prominent citizens was Philip Fouke, father of Civil War veteran and congressman Philip Bond Fouke ,as well as several daughters. Philip served as a judge,as well as a major in the local militia. He was also a U.S. Marshall for awhile. Mississippi River floods washed away the old village of Kaskaskia;all that remains of the former "peninsula" is the island of Kaskaskia-the only part of Illinois west of the main channel of the Mississippi river!
