Notes for Christian Jorgensen:
CHRISTIAN JORGENSEN
(Communicated)
It might be said without exaggeration that Christian Jorgensen, who passed away Thursday evening, the 16th of this month, was one of the purest examples of humanitarians that ever lived. Always ready to serve, rather than to receive, always willing to sacrifice for his convictions, always impulsive and full of a charitable spirit, but overflowing with a strong desire for justice - such were some of the qualities the deceased possessed.

Mr. Jorgensen was quick to comprehend and well versed in economics. He was a man who seemed to display his convictions in an effective and convincing manner. His heart did not beat with the average man of his day, who are more or less superficial. He was a thinker, a deep thinker, and his mind ws in constant touch with high ideals. His unselfish work for the Masons' and Bricklayers' Union cannot very easily be overestimated; neither would it be possible to pass by his memory without mentioning the fact that he was a great aid to the Socialist movement of this city.

It is evident to those who saw him constantly that it was much to his regret to be compelled to lay down his long life of activity. He felt that his days were numbered and all his friends and co-workers could not help but look with sorrow to the end of this splendid life, spent in the uplift of humanity.

Mr. Jorgensen was born July 17, 1853, in Denmark and came to Portland 25 years ago last April. He barely reached the 60 year mark.

The funeral at which Rev. Rodholm of the Danish Lutheran Church officiated, took place from the family home at 190 Franlklin St. last Sunday at two o'clock. The attendance was very large and an abundant display of flowers bore the mark of esteem in which he was held. The remains of the deceased were placed in Forest City Cemetery.

Mr. Jorgensen leaves a widow and eight children, four boys, Niels, George, John, Thorvald and four duaghters, Martha, Christine, Mrs. William S. Baldwin and Mrs. Arthur Freeman.
