Notes for Sarah Burnham: Maj Church was the hero and veteran of King Philip's war from Connecticut. The Mass, Plymouth & Connecticut Bay Colonies fielded a combined force under "Col Church" in 1791 and and went up through the coastal areas of NH & Maine to the Kittery, Me area where they laid seige to an indian village and effected the release of widow Huckins. She returned to Oyster River, married again (John Woodman) and lived out her life. She did not have any more children. She was captive about two years. James (2) Huckins, was born about 1654. Had a daughter Sarah (3) born 12 Dec 1672. Her husband Lt. James (2) Huckins was slain at Oyster River in the Indian Massacre of 1689. She survived him, was carried into captivity, but was recovered a year later at Ft. Androscoggin and married Oct. 17. 1700 Capt. John (2) Woodman [Lt. Edward (1) Woodman] of Oyster River. One of her sons escaped the next day, prob. Robert (3) Huckins who 6 June 1698, gives a deed, with Welthen (3), his wife, as eldest son and heir of James (2) Huckins, ye only son and successor of Robert (1) Huckins deceased. Descendants of the family are found in Madbury and neighboring towns." |
