The Clemens Fricker of Philadelphia Genealogy Page

Updated December 31, 2007

*Clemens Fricker* (3rd great grandfather)
Clemens was born about 1805-08. He was not born in the United States, he immigrated before 1840. I have no information about the mother of Clemens' children. He had four children, two daughters who died at an early age and two sons Alphonsus and Eastburn. Clemens' death notice listed the Hermann Lodge of the IOOF and the Washington Beneficial Society. He was buried in Mount Peace Cemetery. Unconfirmed report: I have been told that the 1850 census reports that Clemens is from Switzerland.

*Alphonsus Fricker* (2nd great grandfather)
Alphonsus (AKA Albert) Fricker was born in either 1839 or 1840. He married Louisa Kettenring in St. James Lutheran Church, Philadelphia on September 24, 1864. He was about 24 at the time of the wedding. They had two children, Edward Everett (AKA Eastburn or EE) Fricker and Albert Fricker. Alphonsus died January 27, 1875 of consumption of the lungs at 412 Wood Street in Philadelphia, he was buried in Mount Peace Cemetery. His death notice listed the International Order of Odd Fellows and the Knights of Pythias, organizations that I assume he was a member. I have contacted both of these organizations and they no longer have information during this period of time. Louisa couldn't take care of the boys. She had to send them to Girard College, a school for "poor white boys". The school still exists in Philadelphia, although I am sure it is much more progressive today.
He joined the 71st Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers Company A Recruited at Philadelphia, May 21, 1861. He may have Deserted November 4, 1862.

*Louisa Kettenring* (2nd great grandmother)
Louisa later married Francis G. Sauerlander. She was born in Philadelphia on December 04, 1850 (or 1848); she died there on November 25, 1925. Her father Peter Kettenring was born in Germany. Her mother Elizabeth Cushman was born in Pennsylvania. Louisa had a sister named Christianna Kettenring.

*Eastburn Fricker* (2nd great granduncle)
Eastburn was born in about 1843. He died May 06, 1867 in Philadelphia and is buried in Mount Peace Cemetery.
Eastburn served as a Private with Company E of the 69th Pennsylvania Volunteers, 1861-1864. He probably was right in the thick of things, at the critical time and the critical spot on July 3, 1863 at the Battle of Gettysburg.

*EE Fricker* (great grandfather)
Edward Everett Fricker's birth name was probably Easbourn E. Fricker or Eastburn E. Fricker; I have seen it written both ways. It was also shortened to Eas. E. Fricker. Interestingly, EE was born the same day that his uncle Eastburn was buried at Mount Peace Cemetery, Philadelphia. He was born at American Place - East side of 4th Street below Vine in the Old City, Philadelphia. Edward married Caroline Koeppel in about 1887, she was born in Pennsylvania.

*Caroline Koeppel* (great grandmother)
Caroline's parents were Henry Koppel and Frances Schroeck, who were both born in Germany. Caroline had two sisters, Fanny and Mary. Edward and Caroline had 13 children, one of which was my grandfather Edward Frank Fricker; I will list all of them here in the future.

*Edward Frank Fricker* (grandfather)
EF as he was known was my Grandfather, he was married to Marguerite Eleanor Cole. Together they had 4 children, Margie, Fred, Greg and Ed (my Dad).

*Marguerite Eleanor Cole* (grandmother)
I always called grandma "Nana".
