5 Aug. 1818. Brown Co., Ohio. Vollentine Fritts [originally entered as Felty Fritts but stricken out by direction of the applicant and Vollentine inserted] of said county, aged 60, next February, declares he enlisted in July 1776 in Barkley [Berkeley] County and Shepherdstown, Va., in the company of Capt. Abraham Shepherd in the rifle regiment of Colonels Rollins and Morgan and in April 1777 was enrolled in Capt. Long's company of the 11th Virginia Regiment of Col. Febiger and served until July 1779 when he was discharged in the Coves in New York. He was in the battles of Brandywine, Germantown, and Monmouth.
28 Aug. 1820. Brown Co., Ohio. Daniel (X) Fox being called on to value and appraise the property of Volentine Fritz, values one young horse $30, one old mare $10, eight
small hogs and four large hogs $18, one bull $4, one cow $12, one heifer $7, totaling $81.00
2 Aug 1820. Brown Co., Ohio. Volentine (X) Frith of Perry Township in said county, aged 61, declares he served in the company of Capt Long in the regiment of Col. Febiger.
He owns 60 acres of third rate land paid for with the pension heretofore received, one mare 13 years old having the pool evil, one four year old colt, two cows and calves, four hogs grown, four sows having twelve pigs, one dutch oven, dinner pot, three dishes, six plates, one mail, piggin, churn, shovel, axe, pair stillyards, one old plow, five geese, one hive of bees, one table, three chairs, an old loom, two weaving reeds, one smoothing iron and drawing knife, three knives and forks., He is indebted to several persons $40.00. His occupation is a farmer. His ability to pursue it from sickness and infirmity is trifling. He cannot do one good day's work in a week.
He has six persons in his family, his wife Mary, Aged 57, sick, weak, and laboring under continual debility, Sarah his daughter, aged 19, who has had fits since she was 8 years old and requires great nurture and attention from the family. Volentine his son, aged 13, Precilla his daughter aged 11.
10 Jan. 1859. Aaron Stratton writes from Buford, Highland Co. Ohio, that he proposes to show fraud in the striking of Valentine Fritts from the pension rolls in 1820 because he had property and income which enabled him to support himself without assistance. The schedule of his property furnished the government was a forgery gotten up by an enemy.
Valentine Fritts of Brown Co., Ohio, private in the regiment of Col. Morgan in the Virginia line for three years, was placed on the Ohio pension roll at $8 per month from 5 Aug. 1819 under the Act of 1818. Certificate 15918 was issued 25 Nov. 181(8).
