Her great grandchildren called her Grandma Qui-Qui Cher meaning yes dear in french, because she knew no English and would always answer them with that phrase. She lived most of her life in Killona, La in a dog-trot style home that had a cistern.
They raised crops including sugar cane.

In 1870 they lived in the 8th ward of New Orleans. In 1900 Rose owned a home free of a mortgage at 1307 Arts St in the 8th ward. Lived with grandson Joseph F Ulrich. By 1900 all their children except Charl;es Pierre were dead.
