Bozeman History
Our cousin Sharon has been researching the
Bozeman lineage for many years; according to her
posts on the internet, connecting her lineage to
Gilly Goodson and Peter E. Bozeman.
Gilly's legal name appears to be Gilliadezar
Goodson, but she signs with her X mark. There
were some Goodsons found on the Darlington SC
census as was the Bozemans.
It also seems like the children of Sarah and
Peter Bozeman had all married before the journey
to Allabama in 1826.
This is probably the same Peter Bozeman
listed in the Lousiana Mortality Records who
died of Cholera but it also lists a child who
died named Peter Ann Bozeman.
Peter E Bozeman had brothers Jesse, Meady,
William Henry and sister Lucy and two other
sisters on the 1790 census that have not been
traced.
Sharon found a document dated 1851 where
Gilly asked Jesse Bozeman to handle the estate
of Peter E. when he died.
Gilly's children were Edward Peter Bozeman,
James Thomas, Jesse P., Sarah J., Mildred and
Polly Ann.
James died in the Civil War; Jesse had a son
named John who also named his son John who had
Jennett. Jennett married a Mr. Carter
Edward Peter married Elizabeth Ambrose in
Bienville Parish Louisiana 1857, and had a
daughter named Edward Janetta Bozeman in 1857,
the same year that her daddy died.
Janetta married George Whitfield Monzingo in
1875 Louisiana. Their children were William
Henry, Webb, Laura, Minnie Bell, Eddie Bozeman
Monzingo.
Minnie Bell married William Napoleon Manning
which is Sharon's line.
Children of Minnie Bell were Ollean, George,
Agnes, Willie, Effie, Cressie, and Gladys.
Apparently there is also a Yvonne searching
the Monzingo Families, found on the internet at
www.genforum.com where you just type in the
Forum box the word Bozeman and then in the next
search box type in Monzingo.
.
When Peter died, in 1829, Jesse filed for the
estate sale and Wiliam Henry was listed on those
documents. Then again in 1838, apparently when
Sarah died, Jesse filed to sell off Peter's
land, and William was once again listed as an
heir.
Sarah and Peter's chldren were Meady, Peter
E., Jesse M. , William Henry and Lucy. Meady is
not listed as an heir in the estate because he
died about 1827. Perhaps he was ill during the
journey from Darlington to Montgomery, we just
do not know but his son was Captain Peter Henry
Bozeman in the Mississippi Infantry of the
Confederates.
Peter's son Peter E. Bozeman married Gilly
Goodson in Alabama and moved to Louisiana and is
now being researched by Sharon Johnson.
Sarah Brown married Peter Bozeman in December
1786 in the Cheraws District of Darlington
County, South Carolina, as written by one of
their neighbors, Reverend Evan Pugh in his
"Diaries".
Peter had served in the American Revolution,
had several records of payment, mentioned in the
South Carolina Militia book, listed on the SC
Roster with his father Mordecai, and others like
John, Paul. Ralph, who may be brothers of Peter
All likely from Bladen County North Carolina
which was just across the river from where they
received their Land Grants. The SC Archives
indicate that Peter's land was surveyed in June
1826 , possibly to sell, so he could begin his
journey to Alabama.
