1.  SAMUEL1 LUSK (Source: Virginia Calendar Papers, Reports of Major Crockett, Samuel Lusk Sr. was an Indian Scout and early pioneer.  He was engaged in 26 combat situations, with Major Robert Crockett, during the Indian uprisings in the late 1700's.  Crockett was, for a number of years, including 1791, and later, the military commandant in Wythe County, Virginia.   He made his headdquaters on the Clinch River, at Wynn's Fort.  Crockett credited Samuel Lusk with the success of the  campaign.) was born January 29, 1752 in Wethersfield, Hartford County, Conneticut, and died 1792 in Wythe Co. Virginia.  He married SUSANNAH STEVENSON Abt. 1770 in Augusta Co. Virginia, daughter of ADAM STEVENSON.

Rae Goodrow:  I've put Samuel's birthplace as, Wethersfield, Harford County, Connneticut, because it stands to reason that all of his brothers and sisters were born there, I have to think he was also.(but I have no source to prove it.


                     Samuel, and his three youngest children, were killed by Indians, in 1792. 

                      Susannnah Stephenson Lusk, remarried to Thomas Godfrey, and moved to Tazewell County, with her two sons, David and Samuel Jr.

 in Carter Co Ky. He married NANCY MATILDA HALL March 19, 1858
 in Carter Co Ky, daughter of JOHN HALL and CINNIE WATSON.

I do not have proof of a death or divorce for Henry Dawson. 

Daniel Davison was the husband of Phoebe Harrison Davison Moore,
 daughter of John Harrison (1691-1771) and his wife Elizabeth Wright.
 Samuel Lusk was a neighbor of the Harrison and Davison families.
 Daniel Davi(d)son is supposedly the brother of John Goolman Davidson
, who was also residing in Beverly Manor, Augusta Co., and who
 subsequently settled in the Bluefield, VA area with surviving members
 of the Lusk family. The Davidson's had originally immigrated from
 County Down, Ireland and settled in Pennsylvania. Much of the city
 of Bluefield Virginia is part of John G. Davidson's original tracts.
 The descendants of Samuel Lusk and John G. Davidson have
 intermarried numerous times. 
Speculation is that Adam Stephenson, son of William & Sarah, had a daughter Susan (Susannah) who married, first, Samuel Lusk, and second, Thomas Godfrey, the servant of Valentine Server (Servier). They were all present in Augusta County prior to the mid-1790s when, it appears, Thomas Godfrey, his wife, Susan Steph(v)enson Lusk, and at least two of her sons, David and Samuel Lusk, and possibly a third son, William Lusk, moved from Augusta County west to the Wolf Creek district of Wythe/Montgomery County. 
The foregoing relationships are based on testimony of Mrs. Varina Godfrey Christain obtained by historian Goode in 1827. Mrs. Christain, a direct descendant of Thomas Godfrey, stated that Thomas Godfrey married Susan Stephenson Lusk, the widow of Samuel Lusk, and that the two surviving sons of Samuel were Eli and Samuel. However, Wyoming Co., WV, marriage records (Eli's third marriage) record that Eli was the son of David Lusk and Chloe Bailey. 
David and Samuel were born, 1773 and 1778, respectively. They married sisters, Chloe and Sarah, daughters of Richard Bailey, Sr. They fought together and appeared on rosters as posted in the forts and stations that guarded the defensive postions of Tazewell Co., VA, during the Frontier Wars. Samuel Lusk was the scout made prisoner by the Indians in 1792. His capture, ordeal and escape are related in Johnston's Middle New River Settlements, pp. 102-107. David Lusk appears on a register of participants in the War of 1812.
There are two outlines below. The first outline is of the Lusk familty of Chester Co., PA. The outline was pieced together using the documents at the end of the outlines. I am sure there are errors in relationships but if you find an error let me know, provide the documentation or point out the error, and I will correct it. The second outline is of the descendants of Samuel Lusk & Susan Stephenson. One day we should be able to connect the two outlines.

2.  DAVID2 LUSK (SAMUEL1) was born 1773 in Augusta Co. Virginia.  He married CHLOE BAILEY Bet. 1796 - 1802 in Tazewell County, Virginia, daughter of RICHARD BAILEY and ELIZABETH BELCHER.  She was born Abt. 1767 in Bedford County, Virginia (now) Franklin,  West Virginia.

3.  SAMUEL2 LUSK, JR. (SAMUEL1) (Source: Johnston's Middle New River Settlements, pages, 102, & 107., Samuel Lusk Jr. followed in his fathe's footsteps, and was an Indian Scout, by the age of 14, along with his older brother David.  While out on a scouting expedition, Samuel Lusk and another Scout , named Gilbert, were suprised by a small party of Indians.  The Indians attacked Samuel, and he called out for Gilbert to help.  Gilbert, being the oldest, ran to help young Samuel, and was scalped and left dead.  Samuel was taken prisoner, and taken all the way to Michigan, where he managed to escape and return to Tazewell County.  He was gone, 16 months, before finding his way back.  His hand was cut so badly in the attack, it healed crippled and he lost all use of it.  All of this happened, in 1792, Samuel was only 15 years old.) was born 1776 in (then)Wythe County, Virginia (now) Tazewell County, Virginia, and died Aft. 1835 in Kentucky.  He married SARAH ANN BAILEY January 05, 1804 in Tazewell County,    Virginia, daughter of RICHARD BAILEY and ELIZABETH BELCHER.  She was born 1775 in Bedford County, Virginia (now) Franklin,  West Virginia, and died Aft. 1850 in Carter County, Kentucky.

Eastham, Jr. and John Gullet, were shot.The fuss was started at Rush Store, by John Gullet, who had been drinking, and had an old grudge against Whitten Lusk, Gullet went into the store and inquired of Lusk, the clerk, not thinking what he wanted, pointed to Lusk, who was standing in the back of the store, saying,"there he is".Gilbert then started toward him, saying he was going to shoot him.  He was then caught by, Carr Mullins, and prevented from going to him.Lusk slipped out the back door, and was gone ten or fifteen minutes, when he returned with his brother, Harrison Lusk.  They asked how big the pistol was, that Gullet had, and were informed it was a large one.Harrison Lusk, then pulled out a bottle of whiskey, and asked if it was as large as that. Marion Whitt Lusk and his brother Samuel Lusk, died in a mining accident on November 13, 1991.  Marion Whitt was 32 years old, and Samuel was 33 years old.

Uncle Andy according to Boots (Buelah Mae Carpenter) had a long term lady friend named Marie Blair, she was an Hungarian girl. They lived in Bairford Pennsylvania, She owned an Italian Restaurant, (Boots said if ever she can get there, she wants to check out the walls of the restaurant, because she just knows her Mother's (Gladys Virginia McClelland Lusk) Quilts are there.

Per my Mom, Moonyeen Clare Lusk Witthuhn, Uncle Andy also had a long term girl friend, Helen Donavan,  Mom said they were sweethearts in school, wanted to get married, but parents refused request, Helen Donavan later married, had a daughter.  She became a widow, and started up a relationship again with Uncle Andy, They went to Baltimore, and My 1st cousin Terry Goad/son of Rosalyn Jonell Lusk Goad. married Helen Donavan's Daughter.

Saying then to Mom, what about Boots's claim of a girl named Mary Blair?  She said Uncle Pete was well known as a Ladies Man, he was a bachelor all his life, end of story.

        This is a note I received from Barb Boyce (oldteach);	



Many in the family did not like her.  She gave away her baby boy so another man "Dooly" would marry her.  The little boy was about 4 or 5 and the other children grieved for him terrible.  Grandpa's sister , Emma McCallister Littlejohn, died last year in her 80's and the last thing she talked about was her little brother that was given away.

We found Grandpa's younger brother about 10 years ago living in Florida, his last name changed to Deputy.  Last I heard he was in his 70's and living in a nursing home.

She said as child she remembers visiting related family, usually very large families, when they went on vacation trips to Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky.  She recalls a cousin Rachael who had a child out of wedlock by the name of, Richard Hall.


Boots (Beulah Mae Lusk) Carpenter, confirmed that there were Fugate's in the family, she said Annie Lusk, her fathers sister, married a Fugate.

After seeing this photo in my Tree on Xmas Eve 1999. My Mom recalled when and where this was taken and a very interesting story.

She said they were on a picnic that day in the Mountains (Foothills of the Aleganhy's in, Pennsylvania).  Uncle John and Daddy, caught a rattlesnake that day, they put it in her Mom's big lidded pot. and took it home (live). When they got home her Dad skinned it and took the rattles. She said she remembers seeing them for years but has no idea today where they are today.
