While all of my ancestors are of Germanic origin, ten of 16 great grandparents can now be traced to Europe in the late 1830s. They come mostly from an area concentrated and encircling Soufflenheim Alsace and Ottersweier Baden.
The Hausers were one of many German Catholic families to settle near New Germany Ontario in the 1840s. New Germany is known as Maryhill today. It is believed they arrived in Ontario through the Erie Canal and Buffalo New York.
My direct ancestors are my father Claude Henry Hauser, his father John Ignatius Hauser, Ignatius Hauser Jr. and Sr.
In the past few months I have connected with decendants of two of my great great aunts Magdalena (who Married Jacob Brohman) and Catherine (who married Matthias Schiestel) I am still looking to meet cousins whose lines can be traced back to great great uncles Joseph and Anton (thier may also be a John) and great great aunts Carolins, Theresia, Mary and Rosina.
I am the fifth generation in Canada of Ignatius Hauser Sr. Who settled in Pikington Township near Maryhill Ontario. I live in London, Ontario with my children Connor and Allison and my wife Dawn.
There are related Hausers from the west coast to Ottawa in my immediate family and into many U.S. states as second cousins.
I am currently looking to collect information about the siblings and parents of both Ignatius Sr. I have information to share on both lines.
We know that they immigrated from Baden in 1840 but I do not have a precise date. Aloysia Zuber born April 2, 1808 in Unzhurst Baden from which the Weilers of Maryhill also came. Her Brother Carl Ludwig Zuber also settled near Maryhill earlier on.
Ignatius was born in nearby Ottersweier Baden where the couple was married in 1836. His parents were Joseph Hauser and Anastasia Ernst.
My Flach ancestors originate in Canada in Brant Township with my great great grandparents Protasius Flach and Magdalena Linsenmann. This family is also traced back to the early 1700s in Schwalldorf, a small village in the Rottenburg district of Rottenburg.
I've made connections to the decendants of Simon Flach, the brother of my great grandfather John. My direct lineage to the immigrant ancestors next traces to my grandfather Louis Flach and than to my mother Mary Louise who was born in Saskatchewan where Louis homesteaded.
I have a fairly in depth history of many of the decendents but would welcome any clippings articles etc. My goal is to place the families in Europe as well as tracing voyage etc. The older children of Ignatius and Aloysia are not fully traced, the children of Protasius Flach and Magdalena Linsenmann are mostly accounted for.
I am most interested in speaking to people with Soufflenheim Alsace connections to my great great grandfathers Joseph Flach (born circa 1800) and Chrysostimus Zinger (b. 1809)
This page is dedicated to the memory of my father Claude Henry Hauser who passed away good Friday April 13, 2001 at 75 years of age. It is in getting to know him better that I was inspired to begin this search. It is in his memory that I continue. I love you dad!
