James Headley (son of Peter Headley and Rebecca Williamson)1531, 1532 was born 1801 in Darlington Co. SC1533, 1534, and died 1887 in Blount Co., AL1535, 1536. He married (1) Lucretia. He married (2) Elizabeth Wright.

He was the last of the Headley brothers to come to Alabama in the mid 1800s.

He became a prominent man in the Darlington community, appearing in public land records for over twenty years, buying and selling large tracts of land. In July 1827, James paid $150 for 128 acres between Newman Swamp in Darlington County. In 1833, he purchased another 50 acres from Samuel N. Atkinson, a sale witnessed by James' younger brother, William Headley. In December of 1846 James sold 312 of the acres he and Lucritia owned to Elias B. Dubose for twelve-hundred dollars. This was the last reference for James in SC and not long after he moved his family to Autauga County, Alabama.

  1. Peter M. Headley, b. 1834, SC1537, 1538, d. Aft. 1858, Chilton Co., Alabama.
  2. Susan L. Headley, b. 1837, SC1539, 1540, d. date unknown.
  3. Elias Headley, b. October 25, 1845, SC1541, 1542, d. date unknown.
