q March 31, 1815, Franklin Co., NC – Jacob Jones petitions court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions, reciting that his father, Council Jones, departed this life about March 1805 leaving land (320 acres) situated in said county on the north side of Tarr River on both sides of Pumpkin Run to his wife until the time of her death and then to be divided equally between four sons, Jacob, Allen, Council, and James. Jacob states that his mother has recently departed this life and would petition for division of land. Jacob draws 83 acres valued at $269.75.

q April 17, 1818 – The Raleigh Register – “Jacob Jones, Sr. died April 8, 1818 at his residence in Franklin Co.—age 89” NOTE: Jacob Sr. owned a plantation and raised tobacco on the banks of the Tar River near the present town of Louisburg, NC. He prospered. His wife’s name is unknown. It is known from old records that he acquired and donated the land for the very first Baptist church in the region. Upon his death, his land was taxed to Jacob Jones (probably Capt. Jacob), who held it through 1834.
