About Our Family Research

Moved to Alabama about 1826 with his son William Henry and others. William Henry Bozeman born about 1802, had a son named Peter Edward Bozeman who married Nancy Jane Anderson in Ramer Alabama. She was the daughter of Lavinia Jane Sellers and Seaborn Anderson, son of Elijah. Elijah's will was probated in Montgomery in 1834.

Peter had written letters in 1828 requesting help because he was disabled in the war but was rejected since there was no proof but the Revolutionary Office did pay him for his services in 1785. Peter died in 1829 and his estate sale includes wife Sarah, with signatures of William Henry and a Vincent M. Joiner.

William Henry had brothers, Meade, Jesse M. and Peter E. and 4 sisters including Lucy Campbell and Ellen Joiner. Meade and his wife died about 1821 and father Peter gave his grandsons Peter H. and Jesse a deed gift of land. Ellen raised the boys in Clarke County Alabama, along with her daughter Julian Joiner.

William Henry named his children Peter, John Thomas, Meady and Martha. William died in 1847 and brother Jesse was the Administrator of that Estate. The list of orphans included all of the children listed above with a Writ of Dower for the widow.

Rev. Bozeman mentions Mordicai in Sketches of the Bozeman Family, 1885. "MORDICAI BOZEMAN - 1735. - DARLINGTON CO., SOUTH CAROLINA A native of North Carolina, born about 1735.

His sons were: 1. Peter Bozeman, born about 1758; a soldier in the Revolution on the side of American independence. Moved to Alabama. 2. John Bozeman, born about 1760; soldier in the Revolution with his brother. 3. James Bozeman, born about 1766; lived in Darlington county, South Carolina; married Elizabeth Flowers."...... We also know that Mordicai served in the American Revolution in SC. ... We do not know Mordicai's parents. Based on his birth date of 1735 in North Carolina, he could be a brother of James Bozeman of Edgecombe County. He could also be a brother of Samuel Bozeman. He could also be a brother of Benjamin Bozeman of Southampton County, VA

Mordecai also served in the war with Paul, Phillip, Medeah, Jacob and Jesse Bozeman, who may have been his brothers and sons as well. Since Peter named his son Jesse M. Bozeman, it is possible that was also Mordecai's name.

Thanks to the Bozeman's of Alabama for getting the DAR to recognize our family so that others may join the DAR and SAR. Most have visited the grave of Jesse M. born 1793 at Hope Hull in Montgomery County Alabama on the old family plantation, where Peter and his family settled about 1826-1827.
