He married ISABELLE MILLER March 21, 1830 in New Echota, CNE, by Rev Samuel A Worcester, daughter of ANDREW MILLER and CATHERINE MCCOY. She was born 1815 in CNE [GA], and died Aft. 1873.

Moravian Mission Diary, pring Place, 20th Feb 1834;
We received word that our former student and close neighbor, Eli Hicks, had been shot and killed from ambush by another Indian. We learned from his brother that Eli and other members of the "Regulators" had sought several Indians near Oothcalaga who had been accused of robbery. While arresting two of the suspects, others started firing from behind trees. Eli was shot dead."
