--------------------------------------------------------------------------
RG75, Records of the Cherokee Agency in Tennessee, 1798-1838 (correspondence, 1811-1813) Microfilm #M208, Roll 6
"Charles Thomas Taylor came into the C Nation a Captain in a Brittish Regiment & married a Cherokee woman by whom he had a son named Thomas. Thomas married a Cherokee woman by whom he had three children; Richard, Fox, & Susan, the first named Taylor was a natural son of the Fox family in England, on that account the son of Thomas was called Fox & they have ever since continued to say that they by blood are allied to the late Charles Fox. Thomas had a brother named Charles who died in the west Indies. The simple narative from the widow of Thomas who is still living bears all the marks of truth. It will be observed that the first mentioned Taylor had a brother named Charles & a son also named Charles so that there were three heirs of that name including the first-mentioned, that bore the name of Charles & the son of the first named his son by the Cherokee woman Fox [knowing?] at the time that he named him after his great grandfather in England.
November 14, 1811
[marginal notation] The first Charles Taylor died in Charles Town, SoCarolina

A white man of Quaker parentage immigrated from Pennsylvania to the Cherokee country (now eastern Tennessee). He was named Caleb Starr, and in about 1790 Caleb married a Cherokee woman named Nancy Harlan, and in so doing he became a member of the Cherokee Nation. They had twelve children, including Ezekial Starr, James Starr, and Joseph Starr. Caleb Starr was involved with both the Treaty of 1816 and the Treaty of 1819 involving land sessions in Tennessee (Caleb was valuating agent for 648 acre "reservations" under the treaties.

Caleb Starr and his sons supported emigration. Ezekial Starr and his family travelled to the west in 1834. Whereas Joseph Vann, dcsd, the father of said Nancy, did in his lifetime give to her a negro named Rona, but was kept by Nancy's brother James Vann, said Nancy made an application to the executors of the said James Vann, and the negro named Rona and her increase named Caesar, Harey, Simon, Moses, Aggy, Hannah, Suckey, and Joshua were put into said Nancy Vann's possession, she now releases said Paris and Rowe [sic] from any further claims she may have. Signed Nancy Van [sic] Wit. Geo. Harlin, James Brown, James Blair. Sworn to, Oct. 17, 1818 by Col. James Blair.Emmet Starr lists Annie May as having died with no issue; however, a fellow researcher assures me that Annie May was the mother of at least one child, Elmira Harlan, with Miller applications as supportive documentation. I'm ordering the applicable application copies so that I can review them for corrections to my postings here.
