RAMINTA ROSS:
The niece of Chief John Ross, Araminta, wrote him encouraging letters in support of his delegations to Washington DC to halt the ratification of the New Echota Treaty for Cherokee removal. She protested the actions of President Van Buren, advising her uncle to "cut his head off," and she wrote of her wish to be a man so she could better demonstrate Cherokee courage.
