Service for Vernon Askey, 92, of Decatur was Monday, Nov. 3, at Coker Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur. Doyle Slimp officiated. Burial followed at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Askey died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, in Decatur.
He was born Nov. 26, 1910, in Decatur to William Henry and Martha Elizabeth Askey and married Beatrice Lou Jobe on Jan. 6, 1933, in Decatur. He was a member of the Corinth Baptist Church and the Texas Cattle Raisers Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, four sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by three sons, Jerry Wayne Askey of Decatur, Vernon Douglas Askey of Decatur and Gene Wendell Askey of Keller; daughter Carol Ann Banks of Fort Worth; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers were David Banks, Daniel Duque, James Askey, Danny Guinn, Jerry Askey Jr. and Ronald Askey. Honorary pallbearers were Carl Greer, Lavoy Oates, Allan McCurdy, Elton McCurdy, Bill Askey and Bill Rippy.
