Book K, Page 374. Ephraim Clayton and wife Nancy for $1.00 sell to Alexander Hill of Scotland in the Kingdom of Great Brittain, land in Madison Co. boardering Tennessee state line, 2,000 to 3,000 acres (same land as page 232). On the property is a big rock cliff called Lovers Leap.

Book K, Page 375. $100.00 from Alexander Hill, North East side of French Broad River, land sold by executors of will of James R. Love, deceased.

Book K, Page 433. Indenture made between Alexander Hill of Glasgow, Scotland and Samuel H. Wiley of Rowan Co., NC for $1.00 for approximately 3,000 acres, the same land he bought from the Claytons and James R. Love estate. . . ."whereas the said Alexander Hill is indebted to the banking house of Davis and Wiley, Salisbury, NC, in the sum of $450.00 due by note with Samuel H. Wiley as endorser thereon dated the 2nd day of September 1882 and _____? on the 1st June 1883 with interest from the date of these presence at 8% per annum. Now if the said Alexander Hill shall pay off and discharge said note with the interest according thereon at its maturity together with all sums of money paid by said Samuel H. Wiley for taxes on said land and all costs and expenses that he may incur." If Alexander did not pay then the land was to be auctioned at Warm Springs to the highest bidder.

He lists birthdate as December 1819, age 80, he and his parents all born in NC, that he both reads and writes, and that he is married (as opposed to single or widowed!). Where is his wife?
