Decie Hill Smathers told me (May 1995) that Grandpa Hill (William Albert, Sr.) would visit and stay with them on Fines Creek. Bud and family moved from Fines Creek to Barber Orchards about 1923 and Grandpa Hill returned to South Carolina. Bud and Mary lived in South Carolina for a while in early 1900's. Nathan was born in South Carolina. Decie said Nathan could talk when 9 months old and that he was very smart. Bud and Mary returned to Fines Creek after Nathan's death.

Waynesville Mountaineer, Nov 5, 1931: Saunook News, Mr Ned Sparks, Mr WA Hill and Mr TB Sisk were severly injured while working last week in the local orchard.

Waynesville Mountaineer, Mar 3, 1932: Saunook News, Mr WA Hill returned Monday from a business trip to Tennessee.

William Albert Hill, 87, a retired farmer died in the Waynesville hospital at 7:30 PM Sunday following an extended illness. Mr Hill was a native (not so) and life long resident of Haywood County and was a member of the Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church. His wife Mrs Mary Clark Hill died in 1943 (actually 1944). Surviving are three daughters Mrs Wiley Carver of Clyde Rt. 2, Mrs Herman Burgess and Mrs Ray Smathers of Waynesville, Rt. 1, seven sons, Garrett, Claude and Noel of Waynesville, Rt. 1, Clark of Woodstown, New Jersey, Millard of Kannapolis, NC, Hugh A. of Brevard, NC, and Kenneth of Camas, Washington, a brother George Hill of Clyde, Rt. 1 and 40 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 4:30 PM in Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church. Burial will be in Red Bank Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Manson Carver, Keith Hill, Denton Hill, Pete Hill, Raymond Burgess and Sam Smathers.

Waynesville Mountaineer, Thursday, August 24, 1944: Services were held at 2 PM Sunday for Mary Elizabeth Hill, wife of WA Hill, who died at her home at Barbers Orchard at 8 PM Wednesday night. She is the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Harley Clark and is survived by her husband, daughters Mrs Herman Burgess, Mrs Ray Smathers, sons Garrett, Claude, Clark, Hugh and Kenneth Hill all of Rt. 1 Waynesville, Sergeant Millard Hill of Camp Bowie, Texas and PFC Noel Hill now serving in North Africa.

Decie Hill Smathers told me that her brother Roy was a member of the National Guard and worked for Unagusta Furniture Company in Hazelwood. He would ride the train each Sunday into Hazelwood where he would spend the week living and working and then return home by train on Friday of each week. He had a very bad case of the Flu which turned into pneumonia and he died shortly thereafter.

Kenneth Albert Hill, 42, of Camas, Washington, formerly of Waynesville, died Monday in a Vancouver, Washington hospital. A native of Haywood County, he had been living in Camas for several years. Surviving are the widow Mrs. Leola Rainey Hill, five brothers Tom of Washaugal, Washington, Clark of Robbinsville, New Jersey, Rev. Millard Hill of Albemarle, NC, Garrett and Claude of Waynesville. Three sisters Mrs. Decie Smathers and Mrs. Agnes Burgess of Waynesville and Mrs. Lillie Carver of Canton, NC. Services and burial will be held Thursday afternoon in Camas.

The Mountaineer Newspaper, January 5, 1922: White Oak News, Born to Mr and Mrs Sam Hill, a little son, Phillip. (This is Lewis D. Hill who was born Dec 30, 1921. Don't know why they referred to him as Phillip?)

Sam Hill, retired lumberman, died Wednesday morning at his home after a long illness. He was a native and life long resident of Haywood County. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2PM in Richland Baptist Church. Burial will be in Crawford Memorial Park on the Dellwood Road. Pallbearers will be Ralph Sisk, Alley Moore, Everett Cutshaw, Will Arrington, Carl Cutshaw and Harry Gaddis. Surviving are the widow Mrs Rachel Sutton Hill, three daughters Mrs Dewey Messer, Mrs Alus Carswell and Mrs Willie Shell, five sons Fletcher, Nathan, Edward, John and Roe Hill all of Waynesville, two brothers Bud Hill of Waynesville and George Hill of Clyde, one sister Mary Hill of Clyde, two half-brothers Walter Hill of Union, SC and Wiley Hill of Whitmire, SC, one half-sister Miss Ermie Hill of Union, SC, 21 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

George Washington Hill, 98, of Rt. 3, Clyde died Wednesday (6/20/1973) in Haywood County Hospital. Mr. Hill, a native of Haywood County, was a retired farmer. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. James Haney of Monroe, New Jersey and Mrs. Margaret Robinson of Waynesville. Three sons, Johnnie Lee Hill of Clyde, Bill Hill of Waynesville and William Hill of Dillsboro. A step daughter, Mrs. Odell Cagle of Waynesville, a half sister, Mrs. Ermie Rhodes of Union, South Carolina, 26 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at the Panther Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Dock Russell and the Rev. Gay Chambers will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Haney, James E. Haney, Jr., Michael, Johnny A. and Ronnie Hill, George and Mark Rathbone, and Billy and Harold Messer.
