The Waynesville Newspaper, February 9, 1922: Balsam News, Miss Ella Arrington visited home folks Saturday night.

Ella Arrington Corbin, 63, of Rt. 1, Waynesville, died Sunday (9/15/1968) at the Haywood County Hospital. She is survived by her husband William T. Corbin, sons Arthur and R.L. Corbin of Waynesville and Kenneth Corbin of Huntsville, AL, two sisters Mrs. Earl Reece and Mrs. Walter Hawkins, brother Ratio Arrington, 10 grandchildren and a great grandson. Services will be at 2 PM Tuesday at Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church and burial will be in Watauga Baptist Church Cemetery in Macon County. Pallbearers will be Max Raby, Don Smathers, Bill Stephens, Billy Wayne Moore, Harry Lee and James Dewey Hawkins.

ARY E. ARRINGTON:
Mary Elizabeth Reece, 57, died Monday in the Haywood County Hospital following a long illness. A native of Haywood County she was retired from Dayco. She was the daughter of the late Lon and Rhoda Smathers Arrington. Surviving are the husband, Earl W. Reece, son Billy Moore, daughter Patsy Moore of Daytona Beach, Florida and Earleen Reece of Waynesville, sister, Mrs. Walter Hawlins, brother Ratio Arrington, 8 grandchildren. Services are at 10:30 Thursday at Red Bank Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Buddy and Howell Reece, Tom Arrington, Fred Marcus, Arthur Corbin and James Hawkins.

  Notes for EARLENE REECE:
Earlean's father, Smoky, was in Duke Medical Center undergoing treatment for a heart condition. Earlean and her half-sister, Judy, went to Durham to be with Smoky during his inpatient treatment. Judy awoke during the night and noticed that Earlean had slipped from the bed and had almost fallen out. Judy checked on her and found that she had died. The diagnosis was heart attack.

The Mountaineer Newspaper, January 4, 1945: Private James B. Garrett, Jr, U.S. Army, husband of Alma Garrett has been slightly wounded in action in France on December 1st. Private Garrett entered service in April 1944 and took training at Camp Wheeler, Georgia and Fort Meade, Maryland. He was employed by A.C. Lawrence Leather Company at the time he entered service.

ILLIAM WILFORD "BILL" STEPHENS:
William "Bill" Stephens, 68, of 400 Liner Cove Road, died Wednesday (June, 24, 1992) at Haywood County Hospital. A lifelong resident of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Rev. Nando and Sallie Smathers Stephens. He was a member of Calvary Road Baptist Church and had retired from Dayco Products. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Anna Zimmerman Stephens; one daughter, Belinda Bankston of Elizabeth City, NC; two sons, Del Stephens of Waynesville and Doyce Stephens of Maggie Valley; one sister, Alma Garrett of Waynesville; six grandchildren. Services will be at 3 PM Sunday in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home. The Revs. Dan Newton and T.M. Gibson will officiate. Burial will be in Garrett-Hillcrest Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Myers, Dale Owen, Steve and Doyle Garrett, Larry and Scott Rupert. The family will receive friends at the funeral homoe one hour before the service. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Calvary Road Baptist Church, 108 Sutton Loop, Waynesville, NC 28786.
