JJ Brookshire went to Dahlonega, GA., to join Confederate Army, 8th GA State Troops.

JJ Brookshire, PVT, Co., K, 24th GA. captured Cold Harbour, VA., died 1907.

Joseph J Brookshire, enlisted as a private in Co. D. 8th Oct 31 Regiment, Georgia State Troops, Nov 7, 1861. Roll dated Aparil 26, 1862 last on file shows him present. Mustered out in 1862. Enlisted as private in Co. K., 24th Regiment, Georgia Infantry, June 30, 1862. Captured at Deep Bottom, Virginia, Aug 16, 1864. Released at Elmira, New York July 7, 1865 (born Oct 22, 1841). 24th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry was part of Army of Northern Virginia, Wofford's Brigade, McLaw's Division, Longstreet's Corps.
