Lula Smathers Rabb, 97, of 625 Old Balsam Road, Waynesville, died Monday, April 20, 1998. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Iven Smith and Georgia Ann Satterfield Smathers. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church. She was the wife of Calvin Rabb who died in 1980. Surviving are one son, Jack Rabb of Waynesville; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 pm Thursday at Garrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Carden will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lynuel Phillips, Kenneth Smathers, Gordon Smathers and Roy Smathers, Carl McCracken and Steven Garrett. The family will receive friends one hour before the service Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church, 2404 Old Balsam Road, Waynesville, NC 28786

The Waynesville Newspaper, February 9, 1922: Balsam News, Mr and Mrs Calvin Rabb spent Saturday night with Mr and Mrs Jack Lyle.

Calvin Leonard Rabb, 85, of Rt 1 Red Bank died unexpectedly Wednesday. He was the son of the late Henry L. and Mary Foster Rabb. He was a retired lumberman. He is survived by his wife, Lula Smathers Rabb, 2 sons, Jack of Waynesville and Bonner of the home, 2 sisters, Etta Barnett of Waynesville and Pearl Wilkes of Everett, Washington, 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Burial was in Greenhill Cemetery.

He married MYRTLE ELIZABETH WHITNER June 22, 1919 in Haywood Co., NC, daughter of CHARLES WHITNER and MAGGIE LNU. She was born Abt. 1903.

Waynesville Mountaineer, Mar 3, 1932, Saunook News: Mr Cicero Arrington has moved into his new home here.

Services for Cicero J. Arrington were held at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church. He died at 2:25 Sunday Morning in the Haywood County Hospital after an illness of one week. Burial will be in Red Bank Cemetery with members of the American Legion serving as pallbearers. He was born November 14, 1889, the son of Mrs. Rachel Arrington and the late William F. Arrington. He was veteran of World War I enlisting on August 22, 1916 and discharged on December 3, 1918. He was a carpenter and is survived by sons, Albert, Jack and Charles, daughters Dorothy and Margaret, three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hill, Mrs. Addie Eavenson, Mrs. Rhoda Rickman, one brother, Paul Arrington.

She died Tuesay (4/18/89) at her residence. The Rev. Paul Carden will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry, Bobby, Johnny and Joey Hill, Douglas and Donnie McCracken, Charlie and Jimmy Stevens and Johnny Arrington. A lifelong resident of Haywood County, Mrs. Hill was the daughter of the late Will and Rachel Satterfield Arrington. Surviving are her husband, Claude Hill, two daughters Katherine Ensley of Walton, Kentucky and Juanita Cable of Waynesville, 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9PM today at Garrett Funeral Home where the body will remain until 30 minutes before the services. At other times the family will be at the residence.

Addie Arrington Eavenson, 90, of Route 1, Waynesville, died Monday (September 16, 1985). A lifelong resident of Haywood County, her parents were the late William and Rachel Satterfield Arrington. She was married to H.H. Eavenson, who died in 1960. Mrs. Eavenson was a member of Pleasant Balsam Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons; Lester and Jim Eavenson, both of Waynesville; six daughters, Emma Bialek of Shickshinny, Pa., Elsie Davis, Lucille Rogers and Geneva Melton, all of Waynesville, Jean Gibson of Johnson City, Tenn., and Susie Pressley of Sylva, a sister, Lizzie Hill of Waynesville, 31 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Services were to be at 3:30 PM today (September 18, 1985) in the chapel of Garrett Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Cardon will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Harper H. Eavenson, 70, died at 12:20 AM Sunday (October 2, 1960) in his home after a long illness. He was a native of Elberton County, Georgia and was the son of the late Willis and Elizabeth Parks Eavenson. He had lived in Haywood County for the past 52 years. He was an apple grower and retired employee of Unagusta. He is survived by the widow, Addie Arrington Eavenson, six daughters, Mrs. Andrew Bialek of Schickshinny, PA., Mrs. Elsie Davis, Mrs. Farmer Rogers, Mrs. Rufus Melton of Waynesville, Mrs. Vinson Gibson of Elizabethton, TN., Mrs. Ralph Pressley of Oceanside, California, three sons, Lester, and Tom of Waynesville.

He was a carpenter and a veteran of World War I. His parents were William and Rachel Satterfield Arrington. Surviving are the widow, Evelyn Derrick Arrington, a daughter, Mrs. Richard Young, and two sons, Wade and Bill Arrington all of Palmeto, Georgia, three sisters, Mrs. Claude Hill, Mrs. H.H. Evanson and Mrs. Rhoda Rickman all of Balsam.

Evelyn Derrick Arrington, 83, of Palmetto, Georgia, died of cancer December 19, 1993 at Southwest Christian Hospice in Union City, Georgia. A native of Haywood County, she was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Palmetto and a retired clothing inspector for Playtex. Services were held December 21 in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home in Fairburn. The Rev. Marty Few officiated. Burial followed at Holly Hill Memorial Park. Pallbearers were David Arrington, Edward Arrington, Mike Clark, Phillip Pence, Chris Young and Warren Young. Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Young of Senoia, two sons Bill and Wade Arrington, both of Palmetto, two sisters, Harriet Rhinehart and Nell Crawford of Waynesville, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
