OROTHY LUCILLE ARRINGTON:
Dorothy L. Wolfe Messer, 73, of Akron, Ohio, died Thursday, March 9, 1995. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Cicero Arrington and Myrtle Whitner. She was a member of Wintergreen Ledges Church of God and the W.C.G. of the church. She served as past president of the Mayflower Tenant Council and was a past member of the Mayor's Committee on Mobile Meals. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Messer, Jr.; her daughter, Jean Mize; great-granddaughters Brittany and Jessie Wilt; brothers Albert and Charles Arrington; and her sister, Margaret Morgan. Surviving are her daughter, Joyce Hamrick of Akron; one brother, Jack Arrington of Waynesville; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Dunn-Quigley-Cirello and Carr Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

HARLIE JACK ARRINGTON:
From Haywood County Heritage Book: I was educated in Haywood County Schools, graduating from Waynesville High School. However, I enlisted in the US Navy 1942 - 1946. But, still received my diploma in 1943. During World War II, I served in the Pacific Theater on the Destroyer, USS Valkenburg 656. After World War II, I went on to graduate from Western Carolina College. After college I taught at Bethel for one year, served as a N.C. Highway Patrolman for one year, worked as sanitation inspector for eleven years, finally serving as sheriff of Haywood County for 23 years and 5 months.
Lillian Turner Arrington was educated in Haywood County Schools. Graduating from Waynesville High School in 1943, she attended Western Carolina College, worked at Haywood County Hospital for 8 years, and Haywood County Department of Social Services for 16 years, retiring in 1988.

ILLIAM HERBERT STEVENS:
Mountaineer Newspaper, Feb 11, 1943: picture of William H. Stevens with following story; PVT William H Stevens who is spending several days here with his mother, Mrs Claude Hill. He is stationed at the army air base at Fort Bragg. PVT Stevens has been in the service for the past 7 months. He was inducted at Fort Bragg and from there was transferred to Camp Claiborne, LA and from there to Ft Bragg, his present station. Prior to entering the service he was employed at the Unagusta Manufacturing Co.

William H. Stevens, 73, of Balsam Road, died Wednesday. He was a lifelong resident of Haywood County, retired from Unagusta Manufacturing and a veteran of WW II. He is survived by his widow Janet Coward Stevens, sons Charles, William J. and James Edward Stevens, daughter Gloria Jean Davis, parents Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hill, brother John R. Arrington of Newport News, VA, sisters Mrs. Earl McCracken, Mrs. Roy Lee Cable, five grandchildren. Pallbearers were Donnie, Doug and Mike McCracken, Bobby Hill, Johnny Paul Arrington and Neil Hendrix.

John Robert Arrington, 68, of Penninsula, Virginia, were held January 27 in Penninsula Funeral Home. He died January 24 in Riverside Regional Medical Center. Burial was in Veterans Memorial Gardens. He had lived in Penninsula for 37 years. He retired as a welder from Newport News Ship Building in 1984 after 32 years service. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife Ruth C. Arrington, daughter Darlene A. Hilditch of Newark, Del, son Johnny P. Arrington of Hampton, VA, mother Elizabeth A. Hill, step-father Claude Hill, sisters Juanita and Katherine.

Claude "Pete" Hill, Jr., 54, of Rt. 1 Saunook Road died Thursday (8/11/83) in Haywood County Hospital. A native of Haywood County he was a son of Claude William and Carolyn Elizabeth Arrington Hill of Waynesville. He was a former employee of Unagusta Manufacturing Company of Hazelwood and Forest Products Inc., Morristown, TN. Surviving, in addition to the parents are three sons, Larry Hill of Wilmington, Bobby and Joey Hill of Waynesville, a daughter Becky Yarski of Waynesville, two brothers Herbert Stevens of Waynesville and Robert Arrington of Newport News, VA., two sisters Katherine McCracken and Juanita Cable of Waynesville, and three grandchildren. Services will be at 2PM Saturday (8/13/83) in the Chapel of Garrett Funeral Hoome with the Rev. Virgil Holloway officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Claude Rogers, Roger Aldredge, Johnny Albert and Bud Arrington, Jim Oliver and Bill and Jim Stevens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9PM Friday at the funeral home.
