Notes for Daniel Leblanc:
Daniel Leblanc born in Neguac ,New Brunswick ,May 11 1903. He was the son of Wilfred Leblanc and Susanne Robichaud .Daniel was one of 11children.
Daniel lived in Neguac until age 23 or 24. He dreamed of a better life for himself in the states.Three of his older brothers had already left home earlier. He arrived in Bridgeport Conneticut, around 1925 or 1926.His brother Joseph lived there with his wife Josephine and three children.
He found work at a factory as a steel cutting operator. He soon met Mary Emily Vautour, and discovered that she too had come from Chatham N.B.(Baie-Ste-Anne) in search of a better life.
They were soon married in April 27,1926. A son Joseph (Raymond) was born in1927.Daniel`s heart was not for city and working inside,so with his wife and small son, they soon left Conneticut, and headed for Sebago,Lake Maine, where Daniel`s brother Benjamin (Beloni) was living with his wife Ethel and their three children.
Benjamin worked as a lumberman, and Daniel decided that was what he wanted to do.Soon a daughter Doris was born in 1928 in Sebago Lake.Soon after Benjamin lost his wife Ethel. That was a sad time for all. Benjamin hired a lady by the name of Alma to tend the three growing children. He soon married Alma, and two more children were born( never could trace either of these two children).
The Great Depression was raging, and work was very hard to find.Daniel had to keep moving around with his family to find work.In Amesbury,Mass a daughter Gladys was born in 1929.While living in South
Windham a daughter,Laura was born in 1931.At one time it was said, that times were so hard Daniel had to choose between food for his family,or a new winter coat for work.A neighbor gave Daniel a heavy sweater to wear. After moving again to Kezar Falls,Maine another daughter Hazel was born in 1932,and in 1933 while living in North Conway New Hampshire a son Herman was born. With a growing family Daniel and Mary decided they had to settle down and put the children in school. Another move to Rumford,Maine was made, and Daniel found work on the Morse bridge. They rented an apartment in the Virginia section of Rumford ,where again in 1935 a son Richard was born. Daniel and Mary moved
again to Smithcrossing another section of Rumford, where a daughter Shirley was born in 1936 (the year of the great flood).Daniel had by then returned to work in the woods, doing what he loved best,to make a living for his family.
Another move was made in early 1937,to Railroad street in Rumford.Daniel and Mary rented a larger house to provide more room for such a growing family. A son Daniel Jr was born in 1937.Clarence was born in 1939,and died in 1949.a time of great sorrow for the family .A daughter Suzanne was born in 1940. Four more daughters were born before the family was complete, Joanne, Yvonne, Mary and Geraldine.
Daniel was noted as being the greatest woods man of his time He could out-saw the best He earned the name of Dan McGrue I`m not sure who gave it to him.
They eventually bought a house of their own, next door to where they were living on Railroad Street. In 1951 due to a new road running by the house had to be torn down.
Daniel bought a 32 acre farm in Andover,Maine. Daniel spent many hours remodeling this old house. The family by this time was pretty well grown up. The two younger boys and four of the girls were left. Daniel and Mary eventually sold the large farm house, and settled in a trailer on the same location. Mary died in 1978 and Daniel was very lonely .He lived with his son Joseph until Joseph`s death in 1987.Daniel died November 27,1988. He left 11 children and many grand-children. Daniel was buried in the St.John cemetery in Rumford, along side of his beloved wife Mary. His son Joseph is buried near by,and his daughter Laura is buried near next to her husband Donald. Son Clarence is also buried there, but in a different section of the cemetery up back.

Yes Daniel came to America in search of a better life .I hope he found it
because he sure left a large legacy of family and grand children behind. I am
sure he will not be forgotten .He will live in the hearts of his family and family to come.(Rest well Dad).
