HODGESS (HODGES) / O'DONNELL Family Tree of Canada & UK
Updated February 3, 2006
| About Our Family Research |
|
Great grandfather Thomas Harold Hodgess, in approximately 1909, was the first and only one of our tree to come to Canada. Our hope is to find all the missing pieces. We got his military personnel file from the National Archives.
This research was done to fullfill James Hodgess' desire to trace his family roots... especially his mother's side as so little was known about her & her family. We finally found her last name & the Hodgess grandparents on the BC Archives website, then began to fill in the blanks.
For the last 90 years the Hodgess have remained in the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia. Thanks to the information we had on Rose-Ann O'Donnell being born in St. John's Newfoundland we were able to contact family members. The mystery is why Rose ended contact with her close knit family who looked for her for several years with no success.
At this time we are trying to go further back & trace Thomas Henry Hodgess (Thomas Harold's father) family info in England; we found out he was RNS in the 1900's; thought we found him in the Tavistock birth records with an approximate date of birth, and finally found his parents ( 1883 he was listed as "Hodges" with similar matching details); he also showed up in the 1881 Exeter census - his name is listed as "Hodgers". In the 1901 Totnes census he showed up as "Hodges" which included his wife & ALL of his children! Many missing Hodgess possibly linked to Australia.
Not much on Richard O'Donnell's family background in Ireland. We are focusing on the Hodgess side at this time, but awaiting O'Donnell pictures.
