Grandpa Cecil Earl Fenn Carter
1900-1939
Parents Anna Lou Stone 1875-1934
William Franklin Fenn
1855-1922
Anna's parents were Augustus Marvin Stone and Mary Ann
Hendrick
William's parents were Emeline Harrell and John Fenn
of Tuskegee but they had been born in Georgia.
Cecil's siblings were Frank Jr., Carrie, Emmett
Marvin, Robert Lee, and Arthur Lee Fenn.
Cecil joined the Army at a young age and stayed for
many years in Texas at Fort Bliss but went back to see his family about 1931 and
married Alice Emma McClain. They had 3 children, Cecil Jr., Annie
Lee, Wm Lawrence Carter by 1935 when Alice died and then her husband died in
1939 so the children went to the McClain grandparents. These children
never knew much about the Fenn families and when little Annie grew up, she
changed her name to Anne Alice Carter.
Frank Fenn Jr said that Carrie/ Carolyn was only his
half sister and that Cecil Earl was only his half brother.............maybe they
just did not get along or maybe there could be some truth to it.
Their mother left them after being married for ten years, having six children
and went to Macon Georgia to join her parents, where she soon married a Mr.
Carter - no marriage record found yet - but apparently her new husband died
young and then she married a Mr. Dasher who also died young - she was found with
her mother on the census in 1920 as the widow Mrs. Dasher. Grandma
Dasher signed her mother's death certificate.
Frank Fenn Jr. resided in Coosada and his daughter
Martha lives in Millbrook, whom we have met, and know her brother Bob
Fenn.
Martha told us about grandpa Wm F. Fenn being buried
at Greenwood by his brother Madison, with Emmett buried at the foot of his
father.
I ordered William's death certificate to get the names
of his parents and followed up with census records from Notasulga and Tuskegee.
William did have a brother Madison, and Thomas and a sister
Ida.
Then followed his father John Fenn to parents Elijah
Fann and Martha Rich in Georgia. John's sister married Thomas
Rich......and filed an application to join the Rolls of Cherokee Indians of
Oklahoma.
Cecil told people that he was Cherokee.
Apparently he was.
The mother of Martha Rich is only known as
Abiah.
