Stephens.
Parents of John were Nancy Jane Anderson and Peter Edward Bozeman

Parents of Elizabeth were Mary Stephens and Abner Broadway who's
parents all came from 1800 South Carolina.
Josiah Marion McClain had a first family in Georgia before he was
in the Civil War and got injured - perhaps he lost his memory - he never went
back - he married Bettie. But his first wife Julia America King filed an
application to join the Indian Rolls of Oklahoma.
Elizabeth Broadway McClain filed for his pension in 1897 and in
1899 after Josiah's death and she remarried to John Gardner as found on 1900 and
1910 census with son Charles McClain in the household in 1900 and again in 1910
with Lorena and baby Lillie Mae.
Lorena Bozeman McClain had several children in Ramer and they soon
moved into downtown Montgomery where they attended Chisholm School.
Lorena and Charles had very little education themselves.
The Stephens families came from SC from a full blood Cherokee
grandmother, mixed with Anderson, Sellers, Brack and Doty, and of course the
Broadways/ Broadaway.
Josiah McClain's mother was only known as Anna - his father James
McClain's parents were Nancy Wood and Josiah McClain of South Carolina who's
parents were Elizabeth Moon and Charles McClain of Virginia.
Peter Bozeman's parents were Martha Hill ( her mother unknown ) and
William Henry Bozeman who died at Hope Hull in 1847 but born in Darlington South
Carolina.
Most of these had grandfathers in the American
Revolution.
Alice Emma McClain had married Cecil Carter about 1931, gave birth
to 3 children but died a few hours after the third one came in 1935, while
she was having seizures, perhaps toxemia - her sister Jimmie Lee also died of
Toxemia. Cecil called her Ellie and we had heard that her name was
Emily. Her mother wrote Emmer in one of her notes.
Her mother Lorena raised the children and they called her
Mother.
