I started researching my family tree in February 2003. I used to think that researching your family tree was a waste of time, but instead I found this to be an enjoyable and rewarding hobby.
First off, I’ve gotten to know my Uncle George. Unc is just one of those guys you are just glad to know and I wish I got to know him earlier. He also got me hooked on Johnny’s Hots (my coworkers are also hooked as well). I met most of his kids (and even hooked up with his son Michael to do a little fishing). Uncle George and I are planning a Houseman family reunion for 2004.
I have connected with my cousin Todd who I haven’t seen since we were kids. Todd and I were both doing family research, and bumped into each other on the net. We’ve joined forces to research the family (and have even managed to meet up for lunches). Todd and I discovered that Aunt Fran had gold mine of information about the family tree. The three of us have been working the same side discovering little things here and there.
Last, but certainly not least, it has brought me closer to my grandmother. She turned ninety-five in October 2003. It used to seem like a chore to visit my grandmother, but I have come to look forward to visiting her.
Like most genealogical quests, this one started out with knowledge from existing family members like Mom, Grandmom, Aunt Mural, and Uncle George. Other information was the result of research using the U.S. Census records, Mormon records, the Philadelphia archive, National Archives, the Stamford family Bible, and family records left by Aunt Kit. Some of the surnames of my family tree include: Houseman, McCall, Morris, Wilson, Hoefer, Thompson, Logan, Reilly, McCormick, Webster, and Diller.
I recently received a warning about posting family trees on the Internet. Apparently, there are people out there that use this information (like mother’s maiden name) to steal your identity. So I’m no longer putting the family tree on this page.
I am using Family Tree Maker to archive things like photos and stories as well as copies of records like marriages, deaths, and the census. I will be distributing this to my family at a later date.
Email me with any questions about the family. I’m always up for a conversation about the family history!!!
