Notes for S
AMUEL JOHN HOWDEN:
Source notes: Samuel was listed in the 1880 census, along with his parents, for Eaton twp, Clark Co, WI which reflected his age at 6. The Greenwood City, Clark County, WI directory lists Samuel, Jr as a salesman. The 1900 Census for Eaton Twp, Clark Co, WI Sam was located with his parents, who was born in Canada, and emigrated to the US in 1863. Sam Sr obtained US citizenship in that same year. Sam's birthdate is reflected as April 1874 (26 years old). His occupation is reflected as a farm laborer. The Howden Family Bible indicates that Sam and Florence were married on April 18, 1905. The 1910 Beach, Township, Billings Co, ND census states that he was 36 years old; occupation: farmer, he was listed along with his wife: Florence and 2 children. Samuel's death is recorded in the Howden Family Bible on January 31, 1924 in Portland, Multnomah Co, OR of pneumonia.
Samuel listed as the brother of William Howden in the obituary of William, published in the Watford Guide, May 16, 1919. Samuel was listed as living in Beach, ND at that time.

Notes for F
LORENCE DUNN:
Source Notes: Florence attended the Palmer School near Loyal, Clark Co, WI. The 1910 census for Beach ND reflects her age at 24; indicates she was born in Wisconsin, her father born in New York, and her mother was born in Vermont. The Howden family bible reflected that Florence and Samuel were married on April 18, 1905. Florence was listed as one of James Albert's Dunn's surviving children in his obituary on July 30, 1912 in the Greenwood Gleaner published in Clark Co, Wisconsin. Sam died on January 31, 1924. The family bible also reflected that Florence and Charles A. McAndrew were married on October 24, 1925. The Oregon State Death Certificate, dated Jan 24, 1926, reflected that Florence committed suicide at their former home in the Albina District of Portland, Oregon. She remained despondent over the death of Sam, her first husband, and also concerned about her health. Their home address at the time of death was 1889 East Broadway, which later was changed to 7427 NE Broadway, in the Montavilla District of Portland, Oregon.

      Children of S
AMUEL HOWDEN and FLORENCE DUNN are:

Notes for F
LOY HOWDEN:
Source notes: Her birth certificate, filed in Bismarck, North Dakota with a filing date of Sept 8, 1906 identified "unnamed" female Howden, born on April 15, 1906, born to Sam Howden, who was born in Wisconsin, and Maud, who was born in Wisconsin. This conforms to the Howden family bible entry. It is not known whether Florence was generally known as Maud, or if this is just an error. Sam did have an older sister named Maud which may have in some way contributed to the error. Maurice Albert Howden stated that Floy died of fever caused from measles at the age of 15 days; no written confirmation or death certificate has been located.
