ARGARET JANE KENNEDY HOWDEN:
Source Data: Jane was listed as one of William Howden's children, published in William's obituary in the Watford Guide, May 16, 1919. Jane was listed as Mrs. F W Rothert of Minot, ND. While she was listed in her father's obituary as Jane, her true name was Margaret Jane Kennedy Howden. Fred called her Maggie or occasionally Madge as well as her brothers and sisters. Her children referred to her as Mum. According to the recollections of Lorraine Rothert Schimmel (her daughter) Margaret was extremely well organized, tended to be quiet and had a great sense of humor. She also had great legs and "the most unusual eyes" I've ever known,... they were very large, pale blue, almost aqua in color, none of the children inherited her eyes however her brother Bill Olmsted had those same eyes! She had a severe stroke in 1944 and was paralyzed on the right side, and for the most part bedridden until she died in 1950.

Notes; From the records of Lorraine Rothert. Fred Rothert homesteaded in what is now Brander Township. He filed on 1 quarter in his name, and the adjoining quarter in his wife Margaret's name. Fred filed for the homestead in 1898 about 4 years prior to their wedding. He did "improvements" in order to "prove up" or qualify for the homestead.

Notes: Edith was her oldest sister according to Lorraine Rothert Schimmel. Edith taught school for many years and taught on Indian reservations, the last place was the Sherman Institute in Riverside California. She died of cancer.

HARLES ROTHERT:
Notes: Charles was a police officer in Los Angeles for over 30 years. He had been the technical advisor on the TV program Dragnet. He was Director of Administration at the police academy in Los Angeles. He has been retired for many years, lost the sight of one eye due to macular degeneration and was losing the sight in the other. He took his own life in October, 1999

Source Data: Samuel was listed as one of William Howden's children in William Howden's obituary published in the Watford Guide on May 16, 1919. Samuel was living on the farm in Clearfield, Township. He was known as Uncle George to Lorraine Rothert Schimmel and other nephews. He wrote poetry and had a book of poems published. George was very musical and could dance a mean jig. His residence according to Kay Nicoll was a farm in Sutton, ND. Kay also indicated that Samuel George's second wife was also named Sadie. Additional information about this family might be obtained from mrs. Eileen P. Kreuger, 510 Edgewood Place, River Forest, Ill, 60305.

His address is Box 174, Hannaford, N.D. 58448. Ralph worked in heavy construction (carpentry) in Santa Barbara, California for 26 years, returning to North Dakota in 1973.
