4. JAMES THOMAS⁴ HOWARD (MALEKIAH³, MYRICK² HARWARD, JAMES¹) was born 1837, and died June 05, 1893 in Broughton Hospital, Morganton, NC. He married REBECCA JANE ALLEN, daughter of MILES ALLEN and ELIZA MORRIS. She was born July 24, 1837 in Tenn, and died September 27, 1915 in Stanley County, NC.

James Thomas Howard was born in 1837. He married Rebecca Jane Allen who was born July 24,1837. They lived in Anson County, Burnsville Township. P.O. was Wadesboro, N.C.

He volunteered for service May 10, 1862. He was a Private., Co. K. 26 Reg. North Carolina Infantry (State Troops)- He was 5 Ft. 8 1/2 in. tall and had black hair,, gray eyes and fair complexion. He was 25 years old at this time,

On September 15, 1862, James Thomas Howard was admitted to the Episcopal Church Hospital at Williamsburg Va. with Rebecca. Released for duty on October 14, 1862. He was wounded at Gettysburg on July 3, 1863. Admitted to the Hospital (Richmond General #9) July 15, 1863. Transferred to CSA General Hospital in Danville, Va. He deserted the hospital August 18, 1963 and returned to the battlefield, He made the honor roll..

On September 24, 1886, he was admitted to Broughton Hospital, Morganton, N.C. carried there from Goodman N.C. He was 49 years old at this time. Him and Rebecca had 10 children at this time. He remained there until his death on June 5, 1893, and was buried in the hospital cemetery, Grave 29, Row S. The wound at Gettysburg was diagnosed as "Vulerus Sclopet" and evidently caused his death.

Rebecca Jane Allen Howard died on September 27, 1915 and was buried at Silver Springs Baptist Church in Stanly County, age 78 years 2 months 7 days.

Rebecca Allens' father, Miles Allen, was killed in a scuffle with a prisnor he had in custody in Tenn. After Miles' death his wife, Eliza Ann Morris Allen returned to NC, where she eventially married Alexander Brooks. (Adam Brooks ancestor)

Notes for REBECCA JANE ALLEN:
Rebecca Allens' father, Miles Allen, was killed in a scuffle with a prisnor he had in custody in Tenn. After Miles' death his wife, Eliza Ann Morris Allen returned to NC, where she eventially married Alexander Brooks. (Adam Brooks ancestor)The 1850 census of Anson County showed Alexander,Eliza and their children lived in the Burnsville District. He was 58 years old and Eliza was 32. Living in their househild was his 3 children from his previous marriage, their 2 children, and Eliza's five children from her marriage to Miles Allen. Rebecca was 12 byears old at this time. Rebecca is buried in the Silver Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Stanly County, NC.
