Homer Drye served in the United States Army Air Corps during world war II. He flew many combat missions over Europe while stationed in England and was involved in the "Normandy Invasion." He was awarded several decorations and metals for his actions.
Homer was a professional musician and for most of his career used the stage name "Homer Briarhopper". He had his own band and played Country Western type music.

Homer and Ethel are buried in the Mount lawn Cemetery, Raleigh, NC.
