Thomas Joshua Brooks joined the Conferate Army and was killed July 24, 1863 in combat during the Civil war. His wife and father in law Andrew Hunneycutt went to Salisbury and got his body and buried him in the family cemetarty, beside his father and grandfather, William J. Brooks.

King David Brooks was killed when a Bull gore him. His friends and neighbors acting from the Scripter tried to stone the Bull to death. When this failed they shot and killed the Animal.
