John Reynolds was the last keeper of the old log jail first built by Cass County and which stood on the; knoll on the west side of south Dishrow Street.

Albert, born 1852, married Emma D. Whitmore in 1880. They are listed in the Federal Census, June 25 1880 living in the Village of Cassopolis. Albert was 29 years old and a house painter and Emma is 16 and keeping house.

Their first child, Jesse or Jessie M. Reynolds was born April 15, 1881 in Dowagiac, MI. 1. Clyde Huston (born Indiana Dec 2, 1879 - May 27, 1947), married Jessie Reynolds (born Michigan ~1885) according to the 1920 census for Michigan, Cass County, Silver Creek Township, E.D. 139. No children listed. The Social Security Death Index has a Jessie "Huston" (her married name) of Dowagiac, Michigan as being born April 15, 1881, died March 1973 in Dowagiac, Michigan. She was married at least twice, her second husband being Clyde Huston. Jessie's first marriage, according to the 1900 census for Cass County, Silver Creek Township, Michigan, was for 4 years, (1896) to Lowell Reed (born Oct. 1879 in Iowa). Lowell was a moulder. They had 2 children. The son, Forest Reed, was born January 1897 and was 3 years old at census time. The daughter, Mabel Reed, was born October 1899 and was thus 1 year old at census time. Records went cold for a time these two children according to the researcher Lynn Jackson. She picked up their trace again in the 1920 federal census, finding Forest Reed "in Berrien Michigan as a roomer, working in a foundry. Same birth year 1897. In 1930, I found him in Toledo Lucas Ohio, District 94, 844 Central Avenue. Same birth year, father born in Iowa, mom Michigan, etc. Forest Reed was a restaurant proprietor, if I read the handwriting correctly. Forest Reed was 33 and married to Mary (Lohr), age 30 and had a son, it says "Foster Jr.", but it must be Forest Jr. His son was: Ronald R. Reed....

Ronald R. Reed
Ronald R. Reed, 69, of 850 South Street, Etna, OH died Thursday, May 26, 2005 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware after a short illness.

Born September 28, 1935 in Galion, he was the son of the late Forest Reed and Mary (Lohr) Reed.

He was a graduate of Mt. Gilead High School in 1952. Ron joined the Columbus Dispatch in 1960 as a flyperson and worked his way up to a journeyman pressman. A hard-working and conscientious employee, Ron would always go out of his way to lend a helping hand, he retired after 47 years.

He is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Ann Reed of Waco, TX and Frank and Judy Reed of Caledonia; two nieces, Kristi Reed of Gahanna and Brenda Reed of Calif. and a nephew, Mike Reed of Baton Rouge.

He is preceded by a brother, Stanley Reed.

A Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, at Mansfield Memorial Park.

Arrangements are being handled by the Richardson-Davis Funeral Home.

I found a lead on Mabel too. Michigan Deaths, 1971-1996: Mabel F. Hayes born October 15, 1899. Death Date: March 3, 1990. Resided in Cassopolis Cass Michigan, died in Dowagiac, Cass Michigan. Lived in Ohio before 1951 according to the SSDI."
According to the Michigan Death Records, Jessie Reynolds Huston died March 18, 1973 in Dowagiac, Michigan--Death Certificate #15216. Her parents were Albert Reynolds and Emma D. Whitmore--they are listed in the Federal Census, June 25 1880 living in the Village of Cassopolis, Michigan. Albert was a 29 year old house painter and Emma was a 16 year old housekeeper. Albert and Emma’s second child was Harry Reynolds born March 1883 in Dowagiac according to the 1900 Federal Census. In 1949, he was living in Dowagiac.

Their third child was Ernest Reynolds, born December 19, 1884 in Dowagiac. He married Lola Bell Rexstrew, born 2/7/1897 in Petoskey Michigan. Her mother was Mary Eliza Nichols and father was George R. Rexstrew. Ernest and Lola applied for a marriage license 2 times and cancelled before they married on January 25, 1916. He was 29 and married once before. She was 20. They lived in Benton Harbor, Michigan. Ernest was a chauffeur. They had 2 children that died in infancy. In 1919 or 1920 they moved to Hammond, Indiana. It is said they traveled from Michigan to Indiana on a motorcycle. On July 28, 1920 they had their 3rd child, Margaret Gertrude Reynolds. Lola and Ernest divorced in 1926 or 1927.

Lola married Ira Roberts and Ernest remained single.

Ernest Reynolds was a resident of Hammond Indiana for 31 years and worked at the Federal Cement and Tile Company.

He was 64 years old when he died on February 19, 1949 at his home on 6204 Columbia Ave. in Hammond, Indiana at 6:45 am. He is buried in Riverside Cemetery Dowagiac, Michigan.

Albert and Emma’s 4th child was Frank Carol Reynolds born February 15, 1887 in Dowagiac. When he was 50 years old, he filled out an SS-5 application. He lived at 245 High Street in Benton Harbor. He was unemployed. He died in August of 1968.

Emma D. Reynolds filed for divorce from Albert in 1891.  Frank was only 3 years old at the time. Emma re-married William Barnes, born February 1867 according to the 1900 census.  Frank was living with them.  She lived near Jesse and her husband, plus other Whitmore family members Between 1900 and 1906, Emma went into the hospital for an operation, a sponge was left inside of her abdomen and she died a week later.

In the 1900 Federal Census for Dowagiac, Albert, Harry and Ernest are living in Dowagiac at 407 W. Division St. Albert is 49, Harry is 17 and Ernest is 15. Albert is a House Painter and Ernest and Harry are listed as Farmers.

Albert died in March of 1909 in Kalamazoo Michigan.

His obituary reads:

Albert Reynolds

Albert Reynolds a native of this village passed away in Kalamazoo Monday evening aged fifty-eight years. The remains were brought to the home of his brother Justice Eber Reynolds, where funeral services were conducted yesterday by Rev. O. P. Miller, burial being made in Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Deceased was born in Cassopolis and lived here until thirty-five years of age, when he removed to Dowagiac, where he continued to reside until last fall. He is survived by two brothers, Eber of Cassopolis and Edward of Dowagiac; two sisters, Mrs. Celia Smith of South Bend and Mrs. Emma Skiff of Chicago, and by three sons and one daughter.
