Not much is known about David Kann's family. He told his children that he left home when he was young and joined the Royal British Navy (another story is that he joined the British Merchant Marines). He also told everyone that this is when he started to smoke. Which he continued all his life.

David emigrated from Glasgow, Scotland on 4 Mar 1911 and arrived in Boston on board the vessel Numidian (Allen Line) on 19 Mar 1911. According to the ship's passenger list he arrived in America with $25. His occupation was a watchmaker. His last address in Glasgow was with his father, Morris Kann, at 767 Bath St., Glasgow. (the street number is a guess, could be 363, three digits for sure, middle is 6.) The passenger list shows that David was going to join a relative, his brother Bernard Kann, at 5 Church Place off Grove St. Boston. Armstrong Beattie's name was not found on the passenger list. This was an expection. (Information from Passenger list, T843, roll 160, pg 295)

In 1912 when David got married he lived at 5 Brown Street, Waltham. When Alexander was born in October 1912 he lived at 59 Ash Street, Waltham. In 1920 he lived at 307 Crescent Street, Waltham.

On Alexander's Certificate of Birth, David's occupation is listed as watchmaking. In 1912 he started work at the Waltham Watch Factory. He worked here until he retired.

The date of David's Petition for Naturalization is 21 Jun 1920 (52906). The witnesses for David's petition were Alfred Doucett and Joseph Adams, both of Waltham.
