1. ANDREW JACKSON1 CAHELA was born Abt. 1836 in Gwinnett Co., Georgia, and died November 20, 1862 in Mt. Jackson, Virginia. He married MARY ANN RIPLEY February 06, 1859 in Calhoun Co., Alabama1,2, daughter of JAMES RIPLEY and MARY ROUNDTREE. She was born Abt. 1841, and died Abt. 1864.

NDREW JACKSON CAHELA:
A.J. Keheley is buried in "Our Soldiers Cemetery" in Mt. Jackson Virginia. Mount Jackson is in the Shenendoah Valley region. It was the site of a Confederate hospital. There are no individual markers standing. Most were missing by the turn of the century (they were made of wood). A large plaque has been erected which lists the known internments. A.J. Kehely is listed as having died Nov 22, 1862 and was a member of the CO C of the 5th AL. (mark.looney@eds.com (Mark Looney))

      On this 14th day of March 1863 personally appeared before me the subscriber, a Justice of the Peace in and for the county aforesaid Polly Ann Cohela who, after being sworn, according to the law, depo?? and says that she is the widow of A. J. Cohela deceased, who was a Private of Captain S.D. Stewarts Company, E 5th Bat. of Ala volunteers, commanded by Maj. ??? in the service of the Confederate States in the present war with the United States: that the said A. J. Cohela entered the service at White Plains in Calhoun county and State of Ala on or about the 3rd day of Sept 1861 and died at Mt. Jackson, VA on or about the 20th day of Nov 1862 leaving affiant ???/ widow. That she makes this deposition for the purpose of obtaining from the Government of the Confederate States whatever may have been due the said A J Cohila at the time of his death for pay, bounty, or other allowances for his services, as a private ??? aforesaid.

      And on the same day and year aforesaid, also appeared before me a Justice of the Peace, as aforesaid James Ripley who is well known to me, and whom I hereby certify to be a person of veracity and credibility who having been by me duly sworn says on oath, that he is well acquainted with Polly Ann Cohela, the claimant, and also well knew for many years, AJ Cohela the deseased soldier herein mentioned, and that the statement made under oath by ssaid Polly Ann Cohela that claimant, as to her relationship to the said deceased soldier, is true and correct in every particular, to the best of his knowledge and belief and that he the said James Ripley is wholly disinterested.
