The favorable report of the advance-surveying scouts encouraged 107 families to form The Licking Company and to buy and settle 28,000 acres of Ohio land. Advance parties came westward early in 1805 to plant com for the fall harvest and to erect a mill for sawing lumber and grinding com. They also laid out the farm and village plats.
