July 26, 1721 in Charleston, South Carolina. He married SARAH JESSON 1693 in of Watertown, Middlesex, Mass., daughter of JESSON and DOROTHY.

John C. Clark, Records of the Descendants of Hugh Clark of Watertown, Mass. 1866; Farmer, John., First Settlers of New England; Rev. William Grosvenor was minister at Brookfield, Mass. from 24 Oct 1705 to 25 Aug 1708, then he moved to Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina. He was educated at Harvard (B.A. 1693 (H.C., A.B., A.M.), and his will was dated 5 Nov 1702; William was baptized by the famous Rev. John Eliot.                                                                                     Frederick Lewis Weis, The Colonial Clergy and the Colonial Churches of New England, p.98:                                          "William Grosvenor, A.M., b. Roxbury, Jan 8. 1672/3, son of John Grosvenor and Esther (Clarke) Grosvenor; H.C., 1693; A.B., A.M.; called to Brookfield, Oct 24, 1705; settled Brookfield, 1705-1708; dismissed Aug. 25, 1708; settled Charleston, S. C.; d. 1733".                                                                                          "Folklore and Firesides of Pomfret, Hampton and Vicinity" by Susan Jewett Griggs (1950) p.30                                          Esther Grosvenor's oldest son, William, was graduated from Harvard in 1693, was a minister in Brookfield, Mass. and later went to Charleston, S.C. Her other sons, all in early manhood became leading citizens of Pomfret. Because of Indian attacks the town was unable to support a minister.(Bowen).                                                       Williams will was probated, July 26, 1721, and is in the Procession of the North Carolina Historical Commission at Raleigh, North Carolina, and named his wife Sarah as his executrix.

He married (1) MARY HUBBARD January 16, 1711/12 in Woodstock, Windham, Conn., daughter of JOHN HUBBARD and REBECCA. He married (2) REBECCA WALDO February 12, 1728/29 in Pomfret, Windham, Conn., daughter of DANIEL WALDO and SUSANNA ADAMS.

EICESTER GROSVENOR, CAPT.:
Ensign of the Military Company at Pomfret(1714), Member of the first board of Selectmen of Pomfret, elected 19 times, Member of the Building Committee of First Church at Pomfret, and highway surveyor. He also helped to establish a library for the propagation of useful and Christian knowledge. In 1710 he was a Sergeant of the first military co. formed in Pomfret, 1714 promoted to Ensign, 1721 Lieutenant, and also in 1921 Captain.                                                      Colonial Records of Connecticut, 1726-1735, pg. 252.                  Pomfret, October 1st 1729, Leicester Grosvenor made a return to the Assembly on the train band. Election of officers on the 26th of September 1728 of Lieut. Joseph Chandler chosen Captain                        Nathaniel Sessions chosen Lieut.                        Noah Sabin was confirmed by the Assembly.                                                                        Woodstock Vital Records p. 292. Leicester also served as Justice of the Peace in 1742.

II. EBENEZER GROSVENOR, born at Roxbury, Mass., Oct. 9, 1684; died at Pomfret, Conn., Sept. 20, 1730. Married about Jan. 1708, Ann Marcy, daughter of John and Sarah (Hadlock) Marcy of Woodstock, Conn. She was born at Roxbury, Oct. 7, 1687; died at Pomfret, June 30, 1743. Children: - Susanna (1708- ); John 1711-1804); Ebenezer (1713-1793); Caleb (1716-1788); Joshua (1718-1724); Moses (1721-1725); Ann (1724- ); Moses (1729-1730).                  From the notes of Horace Chipman Grosvenor II, my grandfather, and Oliver Gay Grosvenor, about 1930's-1940's.                              Sergt. Military Company at Pomfret, 1710, Member Building Committee first schoolhouse at Pomfret 1720, and in 1722 he served as collector.                                                            Folklore & Firesides Pomfret, Hampton and Vicinity" by Susan Jewett Griggs (1950) p 41, 42                                          As early as 1712, Ebenzer Grosvenor was numbered among these families by Capt. John Sabin. It is traditional that the Harrison house was built by Ebenezer Grosvenor who there lived out his day. Born in 1684 and died in 1730--his was an active, useful life. He was on the committee to decide upon the site of the first meeting-house and "school house by the sign post". He was also Sergeant of Pomfret's First Military Company.                              In 1800 the Harrison house was the home of Sylvanus Backus, Pomfret's famous lawyer, who was elected to Congress by both parties in 1817 but died before taking his seat. His law office stood until recently. A monument in the North Burying Ground commemorates him.
