He was also listed in the 1800, 1810, 1820 and 1822 for Pomfret.            Served as commissary in Colonel Knowlton's regiment and was with his regiment on Long Island under Washington at the time the American troops underwent so many reverses and hardships. (DAR Lineage Book).      He served as Commissary of Col. Ebenezer Williams 11th Regt. in the Rev. War.

Married at Sutton, Mass., April. 24, 1766, Hannah Hall, daughter of Rev. David and Elizabeth (Prescott) Hall. She was born at Sutton, Aug. 30, 1740; died Mar. 16 1834. ANIEL GROSVENOR, REV., CAPT.:
WHEN THE MILITIA WAS CALLED UPON TO OPPOSE THE BRITISH TROOPS THE YOUNG AND PATRIOTIC MINISTER SHOULDERED HIS MUSKET AND MARCHED WITH TWO COMPANIES PART OF THE WAY ON THEIR HURRIED MARCH TO CONCORD.             A graduate of Yale, was ordained, 1774. At the Lexington Alarm he marched in the ranks to Cambridge. (DAR Lineage Book).                         Graduated Yale 1769, A.B., A.M. Graduated Dartmouth 1792 A.B., A.M. (Hon.).                                                       On October 19, 1774 Daniel was ordained the 3rd minster of Grafton. The introductory prayer was by Rev. Aaron Putnam of the First Church of Pomfret, Conn. The sermon was given by Rev. Ebenezer Grosvenor of Scituate, (his older brother). He was charged by Rev. David Hall of Sutton. on January 1, 1788 He was dismissed on failure of voice.                              Daniel was listed in the 1800 Worcester, Mass. census, and the 1810 and 1820 Petersham, Worcester, Mass. census. he also served in the Rev. War. The Allen family, p26.
Daniel was a chaplain in Washington's army. He was also a trustee at Leicester Academy.

CENSUS 1790.                        3 FREE WHITE MALES > 16, 4 FREE WHITE MALES < 16, 3 FREE WHITE FEMALES. 1 FREE PERSON                                    Lemuel was also listed in the 1820 and 1822 Pomfret, Windham, Conn.                                                      Lemuel Grosvenor, Pomfret's first postmaster, was appointed under Washington in 1795. He remained in office forty years, and was very proud of his appointment, delighting in signing his name "Lemuel Grosvenor, P.M." A post office desk used by him was long in the family of Miss Elizabeth Thompson. His wife was a daughter of Gen. Israel Putnam.                              He was born at the old Ebenezer Grosvenor Tavern, which some have claimed to have been the site of the first post office. His home was the white house still standing on the corner of Routes 44,93, and old Post Road, where his descendants claim was the first post office site.                        For a quarter of a century Lemuel Grosvenor's was the main post office for many miles around, the first between New York and Boston.                  Lemuel Grosvenor also kept a store of barter and trade. It was customary for the storekeeper to go out among the farmers and trade his goods for farm produce, which was hauled to Providence with ox teams and exchanged again for goods, very little cash ever being handled.                                                                              Folklore and Firesides of Pomfret, Hampton and Vicinity (Susan Jewett Griggs) p.42.                                                      Served in the Northern Department and in 1778 was lieutenant in Col. Samuel McClellan's regiment when he was appointed purchasing commissary and served to the close of the war. (DAR Lineage Book).                                                                  Brig. Gen Rev, War, pension # s 15154, Lemuel served with General Israel Putnam at Bunker Hill.                                                                                    Listed in Windham Co., Conn. census 1800, Pomfret, Windham, Conn. 1810, 1820, and 1830.       Lemuel was promoted to Lt. in 1778 and to Purchaser in 1780. Later he served as Judge of Probate and was commissioned Brig. General of the Militia. He was appointed Postmaster by President Washington on Jan. 1, 1795. He was a member of the legislature in 1794 and in 1796. He helped to form the Atwater-Lyon Co. at New Haven to manufacture 'woollen cloth' The co. was to be tax exempt for five years. At his death he bequeathed to the Conn. Historical Society the sword used by General Putnam. (Bowen)

ZRA GROSVENOR, SR., PVT.:
EZRA GROSVENOR was born at Pomfret, Conn., June 23, 1755; died near Pittsburgh, Pa., July 8, 1827. He served in the Revolutionary War. In 1790, he was living at Ashford, Conn. From 1792 to 1805, and perhaps later, he lived at Mansfield, Conn (1813). He seems to have gone to Bridgewater, Vt. and later returned to Mansfield, where he is said to have engaged in the manufacture of sewing silk. He married at Stafford, Conn., in 1786, Sarah Carpenter, daughter of John and Mary (Loomis) Carpenter. She was born at Stafford, April. 4, 1760; died at Bridgewater, Vt., Nov. 18, 1813.                              Children:                                                      i. Conn. 1790 Census, 1free white male > 16; 3 free white males < 16; 3 free white females, also listed in the 1800 census of Windham Co.                                    Ezra died near Pittsburgh, at the home of his son Roswell, it is also said he died at Moscow, New York. He fought at the Battle of Bunker Hill in the Rev. War. Manufactured sewing silk in quantities for the markets in Plainfield and Hartford. Ezra was a congregationalist. The remains of Ezra are in a grave near the U.S. Arsenal near Pittsburgh. Served in Capt. Lyon's Co., Col. Johnson's regiment, and in 1776 was in the 11th regiment of Militia in New York, and on January 9, 1778 he entered service in Capt. Williams' Co. as a private. in 1823 Ezra lived in Stubenvill, Ohio with his son Ezra Jr.
